Export captions as .vtt (WebVTT) files

LEGEND ,

I'd like the option to export closed captions as .vtt files. Some of my clients only accept this format, and doing it manually or with different software is either very time consuming or costly.

We are working on this.

We have completely redesigned the captioning workflow in Premiere Pro version 15.0. You will see many dramatic workflow improvements. Please update to the latest version.

Not just the captions, but also the positioning and styling are important! (Including italics and font color)

VTT is very useful for media online. Microsoft's Stream player only accepts .vtt files for captions. Yes, Microsoft needs to up their game. But other video editing software such as Camtasia also don't export in .vtt files.

If Adobe were to enable captions to be exported as .vtt files it would be another thing to put them ahead of the crowd. An so many businesses use Microsoft and Microsoft Stream so this would meet a huge business need around the world.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't mention .vtt (WebVTT) format anywhere. Can you clarify if you're adding the format or not?

Just seconding Joshua's question.

Just looking at the link provided above and read this:
Create Sidecar File: Supported formats are SCC, MCC, XML, STL, SRT, and DFXMP.
There are limitations regarding the type of sidecar you can create from each caption track type.

Subtitles -> SRT, STL
OP47 / EBU Subtitles / Teletext -> .xml, .stl, .srt
CEA608-> .scc, .mcc, .stl, .srt
CEA708 -> .scc, .mcc, .srt

So looks like we're still waiting for .vtt support and will need to use third-party software for the time being?

Yes this is needed.
We need WebVTT for Microsoft Stream.
We also need WebVTT when importing videos into Microsoft PowerPoint, which only accepts WebVTT.
For a long time now, I've been able to export .srt or .vtt from YouTube, but am confused why it's taken Premiere Pro so long to be on par with this.
I've got the latest Premiere Pro 15.4.1 at the time of this writing, but still no WebVTT

Caption formats needed for our deliveries include .vtt, .scc, .srt and text for seo.
Please provide a translation tool or option on export sidecar files in these credible formats.

Thanks

The post describes SRT format not VTT. They are different. Please add this feature so my colleagues can produce VTT files and I don't have to nerf my VTT file validator 😞

So it's been 3 years, 9 months and 6 days. I love the update you did to the captioning panel but without the export to VTT..... it's a big part for accessibility requirement, MS team specifically STREAM only take VTT. Most of all the Government workforce in Canada work exclusively on MS Team now.
Please Please Please.....

Yep, Microsoft products are big in Canadian federal and provincial governments. In addition to Microsoft Stream, adding captions to videos inserted into PowerPoint (non-stream, just .mp4 embed), ALSO only accepts VTT in PowerPoint. Considering all the accessibility laws governments are adhering to, this feature is a must.

Can anyone recommend an .srt to .vtt converter application? Not sure if Adobe is going to address this any time soon.

Upload your video into YouTube, add your .SRT from Premier, then export as .VTT from YouTube.

That's a fair workaround, Paul, but part of the issue is that without .vtt support, we can't use the caption formatting features (positioning, color, etc.)

I would have thought they'd fix this by now, but I'm beginning to think about writing a conversion program in the summer when things slow down if Adobe hasn't addressed this by then.
