Adobe Illustrator Scaling Issue

Whenever I create a new artboard, like let's say at 8.5 x 11, it scales the artboard to be 10 times the normal amount. So the resulting artboard comes out to be 85 x 110 inches. Is there a way to fix this?

Which computer system? Which version of Adobe Illustrator?

Have you tried trashing Preferences? https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/setting-preferences.html
