This prompt popped up on my screen and then soonafter my Illustrator CC crashed...   I reopened and files were safe and saved..   Should I worry?

It's probably just an untranslated string attempting to render in your opertaing system's language while not being able to access Unicode resources. The rest we cannot know. You have not offered even basic system info, much less anything really useful about your workflow.
