How do I divide a circle into 4 equal parts using pathfinder , with each part having different colours?

Draw lines horizontally and vertically through the circle's centre, select everything and click Divide.

I am a complete beginner. I'm just having trouble filling colours for each quadrant, in the BMW logo which I am trying to recreate.

You could also use the Pie Graph Tool.

Use Live Paint instead of pathfinder.
It's editable and on top of that the process is far more fluent.

Or use an Ellipse, change the Pie angle to 90 degrees, add additional fills and rotate them with the Transform Effect.
