My center point disapears

Hello my center point disappears when I go to rotate around the center after pressing the alt key. If I don't get the exact center it throws off the symmetry of my piece. I set a x and y guide and I see the center smart icon. As soon as I'm in the rotate tool and press alt I have no center guide to snap to. Thank u

Just a rather vague guess: Are the edges hidden?

You can check that by turning on the Show Edges option in the View menu.
