I'm filling suares with patterns in AI to be used in my ID portfolio. When I drag the finished square into my CC library, the pattern shifts within the square and it's not placed the way I want it anymore. Anyone know why this is happening?

I don't know why this is happening, but I suspect the rulers.

I created an object at the upper left of the arboard and filled it with a pattern.

I added the object to the CC library and dragged it back (making it a linked file).

The pattern shifted.

I selected the pattern object in the library and clicked Edit.

When it opened in a new window, I showed the rulers and control clicked the upper left ruler intersection.

I changed the rulers to Global rulers.

Double clicked the ruler intersection point to reset the upper left to 0/0.

Saved the file .

Now I can place them linked without shifting.

That was definitely helpful, thank you! But by the time the object went
into the library it had already shifted. I'm looking for a way to avoid
adjusting things twice, to keep it the way I'd laid it out in AI.

Maybe that is caused by an option checked in the Preferences (or the Transform panel): Transform Pattern Tiles.

Thanks for the idea - tried that too but it doesn't solve the issue.
