When I try to save an .AI file to PDf the following message shows and the font within the PDF is total gibberish:

The font Courier could not be embedded in the PDF document because of licensing restrictions. Stroked text will not be visible.

The font was installed from Adobe Creative Cloud.

Have tried different standards and compatability settings with no success.

Has anyone a workaround?...

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

I cannot replicate that problem with the standard courier from my mac and the 2 from Adobe Fonts.

Maybe someone in the Adobe Fonts forum can explain that behaviour:

Hi there,

Sorry about this experience. Could you please confirm whether the issue is specific to this file or font? Also, please share a few more details like OS and version of Illustrator.

Best,

Srishti

Try this soulution:
1- Quit Illustrator
2- Open Adobe Creative Cloud app and Search for Courier
3- Scroll down to Adobe fonts, Remove font, then install again
4- Now, Open the font and click Install Family

Works for me.
