I have recently started using a mac that had CS6 already fully installed. There were numerous users on the account aside from the primary user. These have been deleted and the original user was renamed. I'm not sure if this was the action that caused Illustrator to stop working but only illustrator will not open. The rest of the CS6 applications work just fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all Adobe software multiple times and the same issue continues to happen, all apps work except for Illustrator, which give the pop up notification of "Could not complete the requested operation."
I have read this thread and none of the solutions had any effect. The preferences folder does not seem to be an issue.
Chris,
Did you try 6)?
The full reinstallation:
A) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences),
B) Run the Cleaner Tool, and
C) Reinstall.

I had done this, but I tried it 2 more times after reading your suggestion and the third time finally worked. No idea how but thanks for suggesting it again.

You are welcome, Chris.
Quite remarkable, and maybe a clue to cases where the (single) reinstallation should work but fails, a bit like the multiple computer restarts in 2), where the recommended number was 3 back then in 2013, later increased to 5.
