Hello!
Since yesterday (I updated my Illustrator CC) I have a problem with copying a logo with a gradient from Illustrator CC to InDesign CC.
When I copy the logo (or whatever image with a gradient) it flattens the color.
I cannot find out what the problem is!
Does anyone have the answer?

Hi Susan,
I just tested. I created a gradient in Illustrator 2018 and pasted to InDesign 2018. It worked. I then pasted to InDesign 2019 and it failed, just as you said.
Please report it to the engineers here: Adobe InDesign Feedback and post the link back to this thread.

The correct way to is to open InDesign and choose File > Place to place your Illustrator file.
What is the color space in each document? That might be causing the issue.

Dear Jane,
Thank you very much for your quick answer!
When I place the logo it is fine and the gradient is intact, but I want to copy the logo into my file instead of placing it.
I allready tried to link the color settings for all CC apps in Bridge and I want to give it the Europe Prepress 3 setting, but nothing happens.
Also when I opt this in the apps itself at color settings, it pops back everytime to ‘Emulate Illustrator’ or 'Emulate Indesign’ (see attached screenshot).
When I look in my Library, in thee Adobe color settings folder it’s empty (see attached screenshot…
I do not know why this happens… I never had this problem?!
Do you have the answer?
Thank you very much in advance for your reply!
Kind regards,
Susan

Hi Susan,
Attachments by email get removed automatically. In the forum window, click the Insert Image button in the top row of icons so we can see your screen shots.
And I am going to move this to the InDesign forum for better attention.
Discussion moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to InDesign

Hi!
May I ask why you prefer to copy the artwork instead of placing it? Any specific reason?

Hi,
I would like to be able to adjust illustrations and designs in InDesign.
On my Mac Illustrator is very slow and I prefer working in InDesign... 🙂

Your Clipboard Preferences in both apps affect how AI objects paste. Before you make the copy in Illustrator try setting your File Handling & Clipboard prefs to:
And InDesign's Clipboard Handling uncheck Prefer PDF when Pasting:
Not all Illustrator object will paste correctly, but simple gradients with no transparency should. Here you can see a new gradient swatch is created when I paste from AI

Your Color Settings are a problem, but are not related to how objects paste. With CM turned off your gradient's color appearance might change, but there would still be a gradient.
It looks to me like the Illustrator gradients might be too complex to make it over to ID as editable gradients. Also, are you sure everything got copied—there are no locked paths over in Illustrator?

you really need to place your files and edit from illustrator. here is the long term issue with what you are doing.
1. you keep pasting files into illustrator you will bring up the file size of your indesign file.
2. Embedding graphics can cause issues when you go to print.
3. you have issues like this one.
The proper way of working is to place your illustrator and photoshop files into your indesign layout. It is your choice at the end. but these ours of troubleshooting could all be avoided if you pace your graphics. there might be an issue with the illustrator file itself. and you want to fix that issue from illustrator.

Is there any transparency in the AI gradient? Transparency wouldn't make it over to ID

Susan,
Make your life simpler and stick to the place feature.
It is the recommended workflow for many, many reasons (Jonathan Arias has named just a few ones).

Dear Vinny and Rob,
Thank you very much for your replies and help!
I have been working with Illustrator (and when InDesign was introduced, also with InDesign) from the very beginning of Adobe and everybody has his/her way of working and I always knew my way of getting around problems with Adobe, just not this time.
I just think it's strange that it was working perfectly and since I updated Illustrator I cannot figure out what's going wrong... I think I might reinstall the apps, hoping that it will solve the problems!
@Rob: I tried all different kinds of gradients and tried to copy these (see attached image, the gradient turns white), nothing works...
