Is there any way or script to update endnotes numbering after relinking using wordsflow plugin in indesign?

I'm aware that after flowing doc file with endnotes in indesign, it is converted as normal numbered text at the end of the story thread.

any suggestions? script? that can help.

Thanks in advance. ^^

Yes, as Steve notes, the new endnote feature in CC 2018 caught us by surprise, and we're now focusing all engineering efforts on supporting it. I'm hoping we'll have something to test within a week or perhaps even sooner.

Since the Endnote feature is so new, it's probably not yet supported in the third party Wordsflow plug-in. Check with the developer when it will be supported.

Just for the record, the recently-released WordsFlow 2.11 (see http://emsoftware.com/2018/02/27/release-wordsflow-2-11-for-indesign-cs5-cc2018/) has full end note support under CC 2018.

There are still a couple of issues out of our control (see the release notes at that link), but we're waiting on the CC 2018.1 release to clear up one of them.

Hi,

for some the current behavior of Wordsflow is a feature. Not a bug.
Didn't someone ask about exactly that recently? Converting endnotes to "normal" text? Ah, here:

How to turn off the new endnote feature in InDesign CC 2018?

InDesign 2018 Endnotes

To Chris:

Maybe you could do that as an option?
1. Converting endnotes to "normal" text

2. Supporting live endnotes

BTW: I'd like to test a beta of Wordsflow that is supporting endnotes.

Regards,
Uwe

Uwe--

Since we piggyback on the normal Word importer, we can't convert the endnotes to "normal" text--that's up to the importer.

However, once we get endnotes working, they'll be "live" just like the story.

One thing that isn't clear from that thread you mentioned: is there any way to revert to the pre-CC2018 behavior on endnote import?

(Please send us an email (support@emsoftware.com) so we can put you on the list of interested people.)

Hi Chris,

thank you for clarifying that the current version of Wordsflow for CC 2018 is not able to convert endnotes to "normal" text.

Must have misinterpreted what our OP said in the first post:

… I'm aware that after flowing doc file with endnotes in indesign, it is converted as normal numbered text at the end of the story thread. …

There is no way to revert to the pre-CC-2018 behavior of endnote import other than using CC 2017.1 for that task 😉

Or one has to write a custom script that is exactly doing this while the story to place is in the placeGun.

Regards,
Uwe
