How to export PDF when embedded images have password protection?

I've created an Indesign file which includes image boxes containing linked images. These linked images are old PDF files of client artwork proofs which I have previously applied password protection to. It asks for the password when I place them, which I type in and then they show up fine.

However, when I export the document as a PDF, it blocks the images and just shows them as grey boxes. I can't find any option or checkbox to override this. Can it be done, or am I going to have to create duplicates of every single linked PDF without password protection?
