I recently upgraded to MacBook Air (M1, 2020), macOS Big Sur 11.1 and InDesign is constantly stalling (pausing for about 30 seconds before it starts up again). It is as if it needs to catch up with what I'm doing.
Is this a known bug with the new processing chip? Is there a fix? Thanks
Hi all,
Sorry about the inconvenience caused. The first Beta release of InDesign for Apple silicon M1 is now available to download. Please try installing by following the instructions on this page and share your observations with us.

Is this the only app you're having problems with?
As it stands now, if you're running InDesign CC202X on a Silicon Mac, you're running it through an emulator. Like ARM processing translated into Intel i5 terms. There are betas for running Photoshop and Premiere natively on Silicon Macs, but if you have problems with those programs Adobe reps will respond with "if you find a fix, would you please let us know?"
But Intel emulation on Silicon Macs? There's no tellin' — much less any real knowin' — what to expect out of the deal.
It's probably not much help, but this help document will let you know where you stand with this issue:

Sorry I don't have better news for you,

Hello, thank you for your reply.
I also have a problem with Dreamweaver, Live function does not work, and I reported it a few weeks ago. I was told it was the new Silicon Apple chip.
I'm hoping the Adobe experts find a fix to these. I can work around the Dreamweaver Live function easily enough but the stalling on InDesign is truly problamatic.
cheers.

Those decisions are far above my pay grade. I'm an end user, just like you. But I'm pretty confident that Adobe is working on the solution.
Rest assured, your issues will be fixed presently. There are lots of folks who are working on accommodating you.
Hang tight. More cool stuff is coming.

Hi Randy,
thanks for your wise thoughts and I'm sure the good folks at Adobe are working on it.
As an aside, Apple told me that Rosetta 2 should download automatically if the progeram needs it - but when I open Dreamweaver or InDesign, it does not download.
I'll just muddle through unitl the software catches up with the hardware.
happy holidays and cheers.

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about your experience. We are actively working to build apps that run natively on Apple computers using the Apple Silicon M1 chip. You may refer to the help article shared by Randy for more updates.
Additionally, please check out this support article by Apple if you have more issues running Rosetta 2.
Hope it helps.

Ashutosh

thank you so much for your note, and happy holidays to you.
Randy did respond to me and shared his very helpful article.
And the Apple "genius" also helped me. BUT, the apple specialist said you cannot download Rosetta 2. The program must need Rosetta 2 to work and then it will download automatically. My InDesign and Dreamweaver and other Adobe suite programs do not "ask" for Rosetta 2 to run. They just open and when they run, there are bugs.
It would be great if one could get rosetta 2. cheers, seth

I would just like to add here that 3 months later indesign is still crashing. It is basically unusable and makes my day to day work extremely tedious.
What is the point of forcing subscriptions if the apps themselves are not updated for the latest hardware?

So bummed about InDesign, where I spend most of my time... the speed of the new machine is canceled out by having to reboot 1-2 times a day because InDesign can't keep up. PLEASSSEEEE fix it!

I spoke to Apple several times about Rosetta 2 with no luck. I fear we must muddle through until Adobe updates InDesign for the M1 Chip.

Please read the rest of this thread and especially look at https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/apple-silicon-m1-chip.html. The versions of Adobe applications that are ARM-processor (and hence M1 computer-on-a-chip) compatible will be released as soon as we can get the conversions reliably completed and fully tested.
We note again that if you must be “the first on the block” to buy the latest bleeding edge technology, you certainly should not be using same for production purposes. This is at least the third time in the history of the Apple Macintosh product line where Apple has chosen to make very dramatic and incompatible hardware platform and/or operating system versions that require a while for not only the application vendors to convert their software, but for Apple to get often very significant “issues” resolved in MacOS (and even the hardware).

I understand and am hoping both Adobe and Apple can sort this out. In the mean time, "it is what it is." Thank you.
