"Create new" or "more presets" not working

Hi everyone,

I cannot create a new indesign file. I can open files. I have cleared my preferences, but lost all my recent files that I had.

I don't understand how to rename these library files I have seen people refer to on here. I can't seem to find any files of the sort. I have a mac, on macOS catalina.

Does anyone know how to get these files back and make the "create new" button work again? I've also uninstalled and reinstalled.

Stressed out!!!

Hi defaultzvxlyyqz6rup,

I'm not sure what's going on with your InDesign installation.

What you can test:

[1] Use the keyboard shortcut for "New Document": Cmd + N

[2] Create a new document by bypassing the dialog for "New Document" with the keyboard shortcut:

Cmd + Alt + N

[3] Go to Preferences > General and enable the legacy dialog for "New Document".

Maybe that will help.

Hi thank you for answering,

The short cuts do not work, and I for some reason am not able to access my preferences, it is greyed out as shown in photo below. Would you know why this is?

Oh! Seen your screenshot. That's a serious issue…

My suggestion:

Uninstall InDesign.

Log out from your Creative Cloud Desktop App.

Shut down your machine.

Reboot, log in to the Creative Cloud App and install InDesign again.

Another question:
What's your exact version of InDesign?

Hold the Cmd key when accessing "About InDesign". The exact version number will show up.

Hm. Why did you use the tag "Server developers" in your initial post, are you using InDesign Server?

Which is a InDesign version without any graphical user interface.

Thanks,
Uwe Laubender

I'm on version 16.1 and no, not using InDesign server. I honestly just did not know what to put for my post tags lol. Sorry!

I will try to uninstall, log out and restart then reinstall.
