P: Library collection panel scrolls unexpectedly when you duplicate/rename/delete a collection set

When you're viewing a collection set of smart collections in the Collections panel, if you duplicate/rename/delete a collection set, the viewport seems to scroll up to the bottom of the highest open collection set... The viewport should stay put on the collection set I am currently working in during these operations and not scroll for me. This can become very tedious as I make 5-7 smart collections with every collection set that I create!

Unlisted YouTube screencast of my Collections panel during these operations: https://youtu.be/AE8R_MGG3uY

The issue is still in-progress (see the top of this thread). While most occurrences have been fixed, there are still a few lingering places where this happens.

See this bug report, Select multiple collections bug, for similar symptoms when you command-click a collection.  I haven't merged the topics, because it's not clear it's the same bug.

Whenever I add a new collection (collection set, smart collection or collection) under a collection set, the whole panel jumps down, covering the new collection just added. My request is to have the Collections Panel stay in one place when adding a sub-collection. When I add a new collection, I want to be able to use it and not have to hunt for it.

When you drag and drop a collection into a collection set, once you let go, the window does this jump. It doesn't appear to jump anywhere in particular, just jumps. When trying to manage hundreds of collections its a very annoying bug.

Wasnt able to reproduce on my Lr Classic v7.3 on Windows 10 x64 bit on my Dell XPS15 core i7-7700 laptop, but I dont have as many smart collections as the original poster so not sure if there is a # of Smart Collections it needs before this bug appears as documented.

You need to have enough smart collections that they fill your panel as the bug is that the collection viewport jumps around upon duplicating, renaming or deleting the aforementioned collections. So you can’t reproduce the bug if you don’t have enough smart collections.

This is still an issue when renaming collections. The viewport skips around and doesn't keep focus, rather resetting to the collection that is currently selected. Very frustrating when cleaning up your collections!

This wasn't fixed for me. I right-clicked a collection set, clicked "Create Collection Set...", wrote my title, clicked "Create" and then the left panel under "Collections" moved up, again, to the highest, already opened collection set, which happened to be at the top. I had to scroll all the way back down, trying to traverse the tree of open collections to find where I was before.

Would you like me to record a 5 minute video of my workflow process? When I need to make new folders, a number of smart collections to stay organized, it seems to be quite a battle to always be scrolling and really takes time away from editing photos. I know I should be looking at Lightroom CC but my entire collection and everything I'm used to is in Classic.

"I know I should be looking at Lightroom CC"

Adobe insists that LR Classic is not an end-of-life product and is getting full support and development resources, so there shouldn't be any reason to look at LR CC unless you really want the cloud features.

I am running Lightroom version 8.4 [201908011719-03751b60] -

The PANELS on both sides i.e. Collections on Left AND the Keywords on Right including the other ones on the right BOUNCE UP AND DOWN which has resulted in 4X the amount of time in any workflow and a serious frustration in getting through any Editing or reorganizing of data.

4X the time on a small group of images.
