LR Classic frequently grinds to a halt in develop module

Hello,

Seemingly overnight, Lightroom Classic began bogging down really badly while in the develop module. It tends to happen when adjusting sliders, using the brush tool, cropping - essentially any task that's not a simple one-click step. It seems like a rare event when I'm able to process an image without having to restart LR at some point. Once in a while it gets so stuck and pixellated that I have to force quit my iMac (late 2014), sometimes resorting to pushing the button until it shuts down. Here's a screenshot that I had to take with my phone.IMG_2182.JPG

This began on Dec. 17, 2020 after I imported and tried editing photos I took that day. Before then, no issues at all. I currently have about half of my 1 TB harddrive free. After the issue started, I moved a couple hundred GBs of video files to an external harddrive, but it hasn't helped. I also have 8 GB RAM. The rest of my system is a mix of minimum and recommended requirements.

I'm running LR version 10.1.1.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this so I can edit nice and smoothly again?

Thanks!

Many people are experiencing problems with LR 10.0, 10.1, and 10.1.1 on all versions of Mac OS. Adobe has acknowledged these issues, and we can hope that 10.2 will fix them.  LR usually releases every two months, and 10.1 came out on 12/8, so we might expect 10.2 the first week of February.  However, 10.1.1 was an unusual "patch" release to fix a cloud-sync problem, so the regular schedule might have shifted (Adobe rarely lets us know ahead of time).

There may be multiple issues going on, so different workarounds have worked for some people:

- Set Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off.

- If you have a custom color profile assigned to your display from a calibrator or running System Preferences > Displays > Color, set the display profile to Color LCD (for a Retina display), Adobe RGB (for a wide-gamut display), or sRGB (for a traditional display).

- Roll back to 10.0 (easy):

- Roll back to 9.4 (hard, ask for details if you get this desperate).
