Only able to Import to computer vs my external hardrive

When I go to import my images and click on the arrow where I should be able to select location it does nothing. There isn't a drop down where I can select the location I want, which would be my external hard drive. I just did a LrC update and also my Mac to Big Sur. Not sure if that's the issue?? I've never had this problem before and I certainly don't want to keep uploading to my computer memory. Any help appreciated!!

Have you maybe got the import type (at top of the interface) selected as "Add"?

If so, the destination panel is disabled: all images will get imported where they currently are.

Typically, Add is the default when you choose to import images that are already stored in a standard drive, but other Move or Copy or Copy as DNG options can be chosen instead.

And the default typically switches to a Copy operation, with Add disabled, when it's removable media such as a card reader.

I recommend saving your preferred and tested import settings to a named preset - and you may need multiple presets to cater for different sorts of import - so that importing can repeat identically in future (by recalling the relevant preset again).
