P:(Windows Only): Select Subject or Select Sky: Error message "Something went wrong"

With the new update, when using  Select Sky or Select Subject, i get an unexpected error message saying something went wrong and the request could not be completed.

Thanks for your detailed description. The log files that you attached earlier indicated that the GPU driver run into some difficulties and decided to detach itself (see the error logging below, it also matches your description that the GPU acceleration was turned off in Lr preferences after encountering the error).

Deactivating the graphics processor (GPU) won't help this problem, since Select Subject/Sky doesn't pay attention to that setting (it should).  

 

Many people have reported that updating to the latest graphics driver has fixed the issue, so at least in their cases, the problem was with older drivers (many years old, in some cases).  Try updating your graphics driver following the precise instructions in this article:

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste here the entire contents of the LR menu command Help > System Info -- that will let Adobe know the precise versions of software and graphics drivers you're running.

I updated my graphics driver as suggested, tested the new selection tools and it worked - for awhile. BUT NOW it's not working again. I'm so disgusted with this; Adobe, are you listening? At least let us know you are working on a solution !!!

Thanks for taking the time to post the link. Have just tried to instal, but am getting the following message - 

"Your system has a driver that is locked to manufacturer specifications. Please try downloading the latest driver from the manufacturer's website to update"

When I've been on the Lenovo website before it said I had the latest driver installed. May have to do a bit more digging.

I had the same problem, until I used Iobit Driver Booster. I was able to update my driver and now the problem in Lightroom has been solved.

I find it incredible that this type of failure is somehow tolerated by subscribers. The "bug'' started showing up today, and it renders this valuable tool effectively useless - unless I update graphics drivers. Frankly, I have no idea how to do that, even after reading the instructions. This is intolerable and it's awful customer service,

I agree. Last resort for me is to scrub my driver /graphics card (something to that effect) and reload it using scant Intel instructions at best - I'm not prepared to risk screwing up my computer just because LR can't get it right! This is not the only issue I've had with LR that I cant resolve and I really don't think my system is outdated! Honestly, I'm finding Capture One much better and less hassle - can't tell you how much time I've wasted trying to resolve LR issues.

Unfortunately, Select Subject and Sky don't respect the setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor. If they did, then as a workaround for those with old drivers, they could turn off the graphics processor.  Please add your vote and constructive opinion to this feature request:

Same thing with me. I have the latest graphics driver availabale for my laptop. 

 

Strangely, the select sky or subject works fine in Photoshop but not in LR, so what has Adobe done differently in these two applications?

You already know that with drivers updated, the problem persists.

Please stop putting the work on end users (and paid suscribers), asking them to play with their drivers, and start to rethinlk about your control quality.

I have an ADM 5600XT, more than enough for this usage I think, of course, drivers are up to date. And RANDOMLY I have to face this unknown error. So please, do your work and fix this.

Working in a software company, I have never seen this kind of behavior, ignoring real customer issues so much time.

This is just unacceptable.

Graphics Processor Info:
DirectX: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (30.0.13025.5005)

Release Date: 12/3/2021

 

Now going to AMD, I find the latest  driver (Windows Driver Store) is Version 30.0.14011.3017

So, no, not latest version installed. Mind you, the release notes do not mention LrC at all (they rarely do), Also, as I am not a AMD user, I find that I am a bit poor at finding those drivers (NVIDIA websites are a lot easier to work with) so I might have that wrong.

Today I updated to the new Lightroom CC version with the new masking options. Regardless of the photo selected I continually get an error message that "Something went wrong" and "There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed"

 

Anyone else having this issue? Is there a fix to this?
