For as long as I can remember, if I had more than one thumbnail selected in the Library module and typed something into the Caption or User Comment field, it was applied to that field in every selected image’s metadata. Recently, that stopped happening. Am I missing something?
If I want to have the same information in those fields for several images, I don't want to have to enter it in every image’s metadata. Yes, it will fill it in when I start typing (which I have set in the Prefs), but why has this feature changed for the worst?
I’m running Sonoma 14.4.1 on an M1 Macbook Pro. LrC is 13.2.
While this is not earth shattering, it’s annoying and a waste of my time.
Which 'button' do you have selected at the top of the Metadata panel?
[Target Photo] or [Selected Photos]

It's the new Target / Selected feature, as Rob points out.
I'm not a fan of the change but I can imagine some benefits for some folk in some cases. For instance, if you've selected pics in grid view but want to change one photo's metadata without unselecting the rest, then a quick switch to Target and afterwards back to Selected.
But it's harmless. Leave it on

Dang, I had forgotten about that. When those buttons first came out, I had chosen “Selected”, but somehow it got unselected.
Thanks so much!
