This could be failing hardware, or it could be a problem with the graphic driver for your particular hardware. As a first troubleshooting step, do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

You don't have one of the problem graphic cards on older Intel Macs, so the cause is something else. Next troubleshooting steps:

1. Set Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off and then import new photos. Does the problem go away?

2. It's not clear from the System Info, but your computer may have an Intel integrated graphics GPU as well as the Radeon Pro 5300M.  Follow step 5 of Solution 4 to disable Automatic Graphic Switching. Does the problem go away?

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html#solution-4

3. Upload one of the problem original photos to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and post the sharing link here. We can see if it imports into other LR installations, determining if the file has been damaged by failing hardware.
