Linear Gradient overlay behavior does not match tutorial

I'm new to Lightroom CC and going through the tutorials. I'm using Windows 10 and Chrome.

The Make Selective Edits tutorial for the Linear Gradient says that pressing the letter "O" will show the overlay, but when I press the letter "O", nothing happens. I've tried both upper and lower case.

I have found that I can cause the overlay to appear by right clicking and choosing "Cycle Overlay". However, when I then use the Linear Gradient Eraser parts of the overlay do not erase as they do in the Tutorial.

Am I doing something wrong?

If you can choose cycle overlay it should be possible to use the “O” key. You need to press it repeatedly up to four times to continue cycling through the steps.

  • Hide Overlay
  • Show tool overlay
  • Show mask overlay
  • Show tool & mask
