As of Photoshop (v24.4.1) the curves adjustment layer is very laggy and unresponsive!!

As of the latest version of Photoshop (v24.4.1), the curves adjustment layer is very laggy and unresponsive -- especially when using a stylus. It's extremely frustrating. What happens is when I click to add a point on the 'graph' it's serverly delayed and doesn't add a point. Normally I can immedietly click and drag the point to where I need, but when I try this now nothing happens because it won't make the point. Then it finally makes the point and lags really far behind where I adjust it to be. Every time I try moving any points it's super laggy and terrible. It's not my computer either. I have a ridiculously good computer.

I've restarted Photoshop and my computer. No dice. This is a major issue and needs to be fixed.

I'm having the same issue with a Cintiq Pro.
-> when I disable "use windows ink" in the Wacom driver software, the problem disappears
-> there's no stylus sensitivity detected when I uncheck it however, so not a fix at all unfortunately

-> Problem is caused by windows INK API
-> Disable Windows INK in Wacomd river settings
-> Force PS to use WinTAB by creating a PSUserconfig.txt in the correct folder (Appdata/Roaming, as detailed in the linked thread)

--> pen sensitivity is back and no lags in curves adjusments anymore

This fixed the curves issue but then introduced a whole bunch more issues. For one, pressure sensitivity isn't working as intended. The brush feels laggier, too. THe problem ISN'T Window's Ink. The problem is something Adobe changed in Photoshop's code from one version to the next. The version where it all worked fine is outlined in this thread (I forget the version number). But the next version broke it. I don't understand why they can't review the code changes and identify the break. This is still a massive problem and I can't belive they haven't fixed it yet.

Laggy response I also can't confirm but my machine's on the beefy end of the spectrum.

Not sure what version it started i just noticed it now on ACR v16 PS v25.1 because i don't use curves a lot.

I dont even use any fancy drawing pads, simple mouse Canyon Merkava Mouse CND-SGM15 and i am having terrible lag in ACR curves, in PS curves no lag.

In Lightroom Classic v13 i have no lag with curves, one thing i noticed in LR Classic curves are not so responsive as in ACR, i.e. it takes about half second between updates even if i move curve far image change in 0.5seconds or so, when you move curves, in ACR it updates instantly without any delay even sligtly moving curve it updates instantly. Could be update frequency is too frequent or something?

Hey Mohit Goyal, I just updated to the latest version of Photoshop here on Windows 11 (v25.3.1) and this bug is absolutely not fixed and is STILL extremely problematic.

Here's how the bug works:

1. Use a Wacom stylus (I only have a Wacom, so I'm not sure if other tablet styli are effected) to try and add new points to a curve adjustment layer (or just a regular curve adjustment as both are affected). Now sit and watch as nothing happens and it lags super hard.

Note: You'll notice in the video that when I try to add a point suddenly the cursor just stops moving -- that's because whatever the bug is doing to Photoshop it's literally affecting my screen recording software and it just display the cursor as frozen. In reality, I'm moving the cursor around inside the square area where you can adjust the curve, but not change is occuring to the curve and no points are being added (but the image IS being updated by the invisible changes being made to the curve).

2. You'll notice that the image in question will be effected by the curve points that you've added, but the curve still hasn't updated at all.

3. To update the curve you need to move your cursor (via stylus) away from the area with the curve, starting to leave the window. Suddenly it magically updates.

Note: In the video, when the curve suddenly updates and my cursor unfreezes it's because I'vem oved the cursor (via stylus) away from the square box where you manipulate the curve, and start to move out of the curve window entirely. This is when it always decides to update now... Even though, like I said, the image has already updated to the curve changes, just not the visuals of the curve. Obviously this results in a very unresponsive curve work flow...

4. Again, this does NOT happen with the mouse. This also does NOT happen with the stylus on pre existing points. For example, once a point is there, you can move it around with the stylus like normal without issue. But for whatever reason Photshop just REALLLLY doesn't want you to add points and adjust the curve with the stylus from the on set -- otherwise it will freeze until you move your cursor away from the curve region, near leaving the window.

This has been a major bug for me on Windows 11 for at least the last 4 live versions of Photoshop and it's extremely frustrating. It makes curves nearly unusable. This absolutely needs to be fixed. This thread should not be mark fixed because it's still a very frustrating issue.

Below I'll paste the info I had Photoshop generate for me. Firstly, I'll show that it indicates my graphics card is working well. Secondly, I'll show the system info readout. Hopefully this helps the engineers to fix this problem...

Responding to keep this thread going. I'm still experiencing this problem in the lastest update (25.3.1). It's absolutely unusable ! Curves is part of my normal workflow and trying to work around this is extremely infuriating. As many of said before, I cannot believe this hasn't been hotfixed by now.

wanted to follow up on the slow Curves issue. Despite the recent update 25.3.1 on MAC, the problem of significant lag when adjusting layer masks, which I frequently do in my editing process, remains unresolved.

For a clearer understanding, I'm sharing two videos here demonstrating the issue with the most current version of Photoshop with panels On and OFF.

To troubleshoot this further, I discovered that the Curves function without lag when I hide all panels using the TAB key.

This led me to test each panel separately to identify if a specific one was causing the lag. It appears that the Info panel is the root of the problem. Adjusting various modes and status information settings within this panel did not resolve the lag.

However, collapsing the panel did improve the situation.

I wanted to share these findings with the community and the support team, hoping it might assist in narrowing down and addressing the issue more effectively.

Version 25.3.1 has not resolved the adjustment layer problems.  From the layers palette, I cannot get the adjustment layer menu to drop down.  I have to go to the layers menu at the top of the screen.  Also, in curves, I can't access the R-B-G options.  In the Hue and Saturation adjustment layer, the various color options don't work, only for all the colors.  Please fix this!!

It is far from fixed
It become little less laggy at best, but still is bearly usable, speed in ACR is still lagging a lot compared to speed of curves adjustment layer in Photoshop itself, there speed is okay.

Found nasty bug with curves in 25.3.1
1. in ACR curves when you drag curve point and move mouse across left or right edge of curves box nothing happens, but when you drag curve point and move mouse across top or bottom edge of curve box curve point disappears! and if you let go mouse when its outside the box curve point will just get deleted.

2. Same bug in Photoshop curves adjustment layer when dragging curve point and mouse go across the curve box (any edge) curve point disappears.

Tested Photoshop v25.4 now curve speed is good, however bug i posted above is still there.

I've actually got the bug in version 22.2.0

For any adobe employees who might happen to see this, changing to the 'latest version' is not a viable solution for many professionals (i'm a concept artist, using it to digitally paint). The newest 25.x.x build of photoshop is unusable for me. The software interfaces wierdly with wacom + modifier key inputs for drag-resizing brushes etc, meaning the whole process of painting is jerky and completely useless.

Because your team misses so many gamebreaking bugs for heavy professional users, the most straightforward solution i can come up with is allowing access to a far larger list of older versions. Currently not a single available version works correctly or as smoothly as they used to. If my current version gets uninstalled from my machine at work then doing my job is going to become unbelievably painful.

I try not to think about that inevitability too much, for the sake of my mental health.

At this point this is so ridiculous, that we would happily be paying monthly fee for keeping our proprietary Photoshop CS6 alive. Adobe focuses on AI, while basic tools don't work as they should. We, retouchers can't do the work, our team have mice next to their tablets so they can adjust curves. And we keep paying monthly fee.

Adobe, get your act together!
