Hi Pagalina, thanks for your response, but I realized the font not showing up is an old Type 1 font which Adobe is phasing out of. Then I went up to Adobe Fonts and activated that font and it miraculously showed up in Photoshop.

I am working with Photoshop 2022 on  MacOS 11.3.1.

Suddenly I am unable to see the Interstate font family (Type 1) in Photoshop. I use Suitcase Fusion v22.0.0 as a font management program. The fonts are active in Suitcase and are visible in InDesign and Illustrator. I have cleared font caches and reset preferences in Photoshop. I have re-imported the fonts into Suitcase, restarted, and done everything else I can think of. Any ideas?

If you read the entire thread, you'll see that PS has discontinued support of TrueType fonts. Your choices are to either downgrade to earlier version of PS, purchase new Opentype versions of your fonts, or a converter like TransType 4.

Seabiar, that's because Adobe is no longer supporting Type 1 Postscript fonts. They started with Photoshop, and the same will happen with Illustrator and InDesign in the near future. You can see if Interstate is including in Adobe Fonts, or you'll have to purchase the Open Type version of Interstate. I also have the entire Interstate font family and will have to do the same 😕

My System: Mac mini (2018) OS v11.6, 3,2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, 32 GB Ram.

Since the Update to PS v23.0.2 my Font ITC Avant Garde Gothic LT is not longer available in Photoshop.

In v 22.x. the font is still available and usable. It´s not the year 2023 yet, so Adobe said, that Type-1 Fonts are still usable. And in Illustrator v26.0.1 an InDesign v17.0.1 the font is available and usable...

Where is the Problem???

I have a document that uses the Trade Gothic family of fonts. I have it installed as a fontbook font, on an iMac running Catalina 10.15.7, using the latest 2022 build of Photoshop. Yesterday, I opened the document again, and it said Trade Gothic was missing. The font loads properly in every other program, including other Adobe progams, but no longer appears in photoshop, neither in this document or in a new clean document. The strangest thing is when I tried to open this document on another computer, a new MacBook Pro running Monterey and using the same build of Photoshop, it *also* stopped seeing trade gothic.

I've tried everything on this page, I've tried reinstalling the font from multiple sources, I've tried reinstalling photoshop... nothing seems to work.

Adding more info, the specific build of photoshop is 23.0.2.

If I open the "AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst" document in a text editor, it does not list trade gothic despite it being in the fonts folder. If I duplicate the trade gothic fonts and rename them, it DOES list them, but declares them "invalid", ie:

I have used photoshop everyday for years. Every day! I saw no pop-ups, no warnings about this Type-1 deprecation. Even if I had, I would have assumed I had until 2023 to deal with this massive massive font issue. Again, it's 2021, and this update was just thrust upon users with essentially zero effective warning.

You all need to check your installed fonts. If they are Type 1 Postscript, they are now unsupported.

And FWIW I'm obviously a regular on these forums and never saw any kind of warning. Personally, I think Adobe should add Type 1 support back to the font engine.

Starting with Photoshop 2022, on either MacOS Catalina and Monterey, opening certain PDF files does not correctly display text (each character appears as a black dot). These same files display text correctly when opened in Photoshop 2021.

Please see attached file for an example of a PDF that correctly opens in PS 2021 but not in PS 2022.

i have photoshop 2021 and photoshop 2022 but i use photoshop 2021 a lot, The program works normally.  Yesterday i'm updated photoshop 2022 to version 23.1 then I'm open photoshop 2022 but FAVORITE FONTS IS LOST!!   so I close the program again and opened it. still lost. so i rearranged the favorite fonts while arranging fonts it all appear come back. I'm very confused. so I close the program again (round 2) and open it. so  FAVORITE FONTS IS LOST!!   i feel so tired. what should i do?

Hi there. I've got a bug going that fonts that are installed in Font Book and are showing in all other Adobe Apps are not showing in Photoshop. I found some older threads that said to delete your preferences - I tried that and still no fonts. They were definitely in there on previous versions of PS. Hoping that the bug will be taken care of soon cause I need my fonts 🙂

Casey, apparently Adobe has already implemented their NON-SUPPORT of Postscript fonts in the latest version of Photoshop. It wasn't supposed to start until 2023 as I understand, and that's why Postscript fonts still show up in other Adobe products. Get ready to have to purchase Open Type vrsions of all your Postscript fonts! I think it's an abomination!

If you have Type 1 fonts, this is not a bug. Adobe has removed support for them in Photoshop. You need to replace them with newer OpenType/TrueType versions.

I am using version 23.1.  After update pdf text is showing up as just "dots".  I load a pdf into photoshop to edit and before it would just allow me to select the page and display it as the PDF intended.  Now it is showing up as dots.  I can add text to the image as shown in the image.   I have tried multiple PDF's from other sources other than ones I create and it has the same results.

I just want to say that you guys should have had a HUGE warning on your version 23.0 Photoshop upgrade that the Type 1 support was being dropped BEFORE it gets installed. That little tidbit cost me and my company some valuable time today restoring old versions back onto our machines! You guys have really lost touch with your loyal user base! Shame on you!

Running Photoshop 23.1.1 (latest update as of today) Mac OS 12.2.

Font (Gotham) is available and functioning in Illustrator and inDesign. Will not load in Photoshop and will replace that font in documents where it was used. This font worked fine in PS previously.

Tried deleting the PS font cache in /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop.

I've been using Photoshop to create transparent PNGs from PDFs. The basic workflow is as follows:

1. Create PDF (using LaTeX)

2. Open PDF in Photoshop

3. Export as PNG via File > Export > Quick Export as PNG

This worked as expected as recently as Photoshop 2001 (22.5.6):

With Photoshop 2022 (23.2.1), the text is now rendered as dots (both in the application and in the exported PNG):

I suspect the fonts you're using are type 1 fonts which are no longer supported. https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-missing-type-1-fonts-after-photoshop-23-0-...

This does in fact appear to be the case. Compiling my PDF with xelatex instead of pdflatex seems to solve the issue (I think xelatex prefers OTF Computer Modern while pdflatex must be defaulting to a Type 1 version of the Computer Modern font).

As an aside, this issue would have been a lot faster to resolve if the behavior described here actually occurred. No such error was triggered. The only indication something was wrong was the rendering of text as dots.

What will happen to files with embedded Type 1 data?

Type 1 data embedded in file types such as EPS and PDF will be unaffected by this change, as long as they are placed for display or printing as graphic elements. If those files are opened for editing in applications such as Illustrator or Photoshop, they will trigger a “Missing fonts” error.

Ever since I updated to the newest version of Photoshop, fonts I have activated in Suitcase Fusion aren't showing in the app. Any advice?

Can someone at Adobe please explain why half of the fonts I regularly use in Photoshop are not appearing but there are lots of useless Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, etc fonts that I never use active that I can not get rid off but all my fonts work in Illustrator! Come on Adobe please fix this as this is madness and so frustrating! I'm paying a lot of money for something that isn't working properly here.
