Could not save because of a program error - Photoshop 21.2.0 Windows 10

I have recently been getting a message "could not save [file] because of a program error" - with no additional information.  Wouldn't it be reasonable to expect Adobe to provide you with additional information if it's telling you it can't save your file?  Does anybody know why this might be happening and how to solve it?  My system info is copied below. Please check and make sure that all available Windows updates are installed.
Also, please let us know are you saving the files locally or on a network/external hard drive?

Does this happen with any file or some specific files?

Thanks for your response.  After about ten minutes, Photoshop was able to save the file.  This happened previously with a different file.  I am saving the files to an external hard drive.  I will check to see that all Windows updates are installed, although I believe this is done automatically.  It's my impression from your message that saving to the external hard drive may be the cause of this error, but it would be nice if Photoshop were able to confirm that and give that additional detail.

Hello, I have once again gotten the error referred to above - "could not save because of a program error."  This is becoming the norm, and not the exception when trying to save files.  It would be nice to have further feedback - absent Photoshop giving me any - as to why this is happening, or how I could troubleshoot it.  Thank you.

Having the same problem, but it only happens when I try to save to my Google Drive File Stream folder. Saving outside of it works fine.

Same here.

I can save as another file to my desktop and the transfer that file to my external, but I cannot save to my external without getting an"program error" message. It opens perfectly fine. I am running Photoshop 2021 on a Mac that's up to date. Frustrating.

Appreciated ADOBE representatives, it is really SAD that Paying customers have to face these problems when a PIRATED VERSION OF PHOTOSHOP works better and more stable. Where is the incentive to have genuine software??? I DO HAVE THE PAYED VERSION but guess what>?? the solution for this HUGE PROBLEM is installing and cracking a non official version,.,,, SHAME ON YOU!!!

Same problem withMacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019), Catalina (Version 10.15.6).  It happened now several times on different files, stored either on external harddrive or on destop.  Really annoying. Also: Photshop with sidecar between Macbook Pro and iPad Pro is due to bugs unusable
