Help, I was trying to install munold photoshop 7.0.1, but I cannkt find the activation code. I know these wouldnt normally be given out, but I was wondering since its such an old version if its possible to get one.
All the servers have been shut down for old versions of Photoshop. It wouldn't do any good to have your old activation code.
I may be using the wrong terminology. Serial number or hex key. This is being used on a desktop
Yea, what I previously said still stands. There are new codes, old versions of Photoshop can't be activated.
Chuck, I'm trying to remember: did PS 7 need activation or did that start with CS?
You might be right, Jane. Maybe the key code was built into the software at that point.
It's a challenge to remember that far back Chuck!
Yeah, it's a long time ago. There was a serial number that you were supposed to dial in here:
Or wait, was that something else?
No, there wasn't any activation with 7.0. The serial number was enough. Activation came with CS / 8.0.
If you installed it in the past, it may be possible to use "key recovery software." Try a few of the free ones. Major Geeks is a trusted source.
but being it's 20 years old...
Not sure if this will work or not:
If you have a windows computer that had/has photoshop 7 installed you can get the serial number from the Windows Registry.
Use Windows Logo key + R key then type regedit.
Then go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Registration and the Serial should be there.
Given PS7's advanced age and lack of features, this might be a good opportunity to scrap it for better software. Even if you do find a serial number for your 2 decades old product, there's no guarantee it will run right on a modern machine and OS. And there's absolutely zero chance it will run much less install on a recent Mac.
Photoshop Elements 2021 (under $100, no subscription needed). It's a lite version of PS CC without all the bells & whistles and 1,000% better than PS7.

Whichever you decide, good luck! 🙂
Good point, Nancy. PS7 and earlier was not designed for 1TB+ drives in Windows. Forget Macs. PS7 was the old Motorola G series Power PC CPUs, and I think on Intel Macs, the Rosetta emulator was needed.
