Photoshop CC 2017 PSD files are heavier!

Hello.

I have a great concern with the new photoshop version:

The psd files it produce are far heavier!

For example, for the same work, i have 25 mo psd file with the 2015 version and 125 mo with the 2017 version...

It's really a problem: I lose really a lot of time with the files transfers!

I had to come back to a 2015 version.

I discussed this with other webdesigner and graphics specialists, and they have the same problem.

It is normal? A update can repair this???
Simply why it is so heavier???

Can you go to Preferences - File Handling and see if the settings below have changed between your CC2017 and CC2015 versions

Either of these will affect the file size

Are the files exactly the same before saving (resolution, bit depth, content etc)

As a test , I just created two files from scratch - just a couple of layers and two adjustment layers. I did this in both CC2015.5.1 and in CC2017 and both saved at exactly the same size on disk.

Yep there were... and really im not the only one with this problem 😉
And yeah the psd files weights are completely ou of control lol...example: a psd: 350*500 (72dpi) + 1 image (5mo) as background + only one line of text without effetc = 105 mo !

I don't doubt you see a problem . It would help if we can narrow it down to what is different about the two files so that we know if it is something to raise with Adobe.

I'll try now an create a file using the dimensions you show above. One more thought whilst I do that - is the history log enabled?

history log? ... i don't understand what you're asking for... (my photoshop is in french, so it's not the same terms).
if it's in preferences => no history log enable

I've tried this on several files - both embedding and copying images as well as text layers. In every case my PSD file size has been the same from CC2015 to CC2017.

Is it possible for you to link to two example files (one from CC2015 and one from CC2017). That may help highlight where the difference lies.

PSD files are not transfer across the Internet by browser for displaying images.  Browser transfer other image file types for displaying images and videos Jpeg, PNG. GIF, MP4, WMV etc.

You use PSD files to save your work documents. These PSD files contain all your Layers. There are many types layers some can be extremely large. Your PSD files will be much larger than  the Web image files you save using your layed document.  Still image files like Jpeg and PNG files are not Layered file the contain a sine image layer.

A PSD file with only a few layers can be quite large.  For example If I open a RAW file as a Smart object layer.  The Photoshop document open starts as a single smart object layer.  Its embedded object has a copy of my RAW file and its ACR settings and an associated transform.   The document bottom layer is in  my case most likely be 54MB in size. The 50+MB Raw file, the ACR settings, the Pixels Photoshop rendered for the smart object layers pixels and the transform setting. If I place in a second RAW file and Transform it small to form a composite of two images. The second layer is also around 54MB.  If I add a text later the layer will be small byte wise.  If a Place in a Watermark PSD file and size and position it the layer may be quite large.  Now when I use Save for web and save a scaled down Jpeg of PNG file for web use that will fit a size like 400Px by 300Px the  Jpeg file canvas size will be 120,000pixels uncompressed the layer will be 360KB in size the compressed jpeg or png file will be smaller then 360KB. The PSD file saved will be 100 to 200MB in size.

Then you need to create smaller PSD files.  If you have Smart Object layers that you know you will not be modifying in the  future rasterize it.  If you have layer groups you will not be modifying in the future convert the group to a smart object layer then rasterize that that smart object layer.  Place in File may also have ancestor metadata.   If a psd file seem overly large open  placed in smart objects layers and run a script to strip accentor metadata  from the work document and save the work document so the layer object will be updated with the file that had its ancestor metadata removed. Make sure you save PSD/PSB options is not set to disable PSD compression.   I do not current use the newest version of Photoshop for my work.  Still I would not expect the newly saved PSD file will be much larger then older Photoshop version.  To test this I search my E: drive for the largest PSD file I have on it.  It tutned out to be 793735KB in size. I Edited that PSD file in CC 2017 and added a Text layer that only has one word in it.  A very large TEXT.  The text layer would only add a small amount of data to the document. I save a psd adding Text to the file name to my desktop. The new PSD file saved as a smaller size the the one I Opened.  The new PSD file was 792804KB In the File explorer. 952,757 fewer bytes.

Post your problem Document upload the before and after PSD files. And links to these.

You may have a real problem there are many layer types.  Let US see the document save by your old PS version and the Document saved by CC 2017.

Kinsi, try to copy the entire content from one of the "big" files into a new document and check the size. This should clear all metadata.

2) if there is not, photoshop change my layers width and height loool

So i did what you said, but it's the same!

Photoshop should only change your document's  canvas size if you use features to do that.  Like Crop, Canvas Size, and Image Size. Addons like Scripts, Actions and Plug-ins can also change a documents Canvas size.

Also Photoshop supports any layer size. You document can have many size layers. Layers larger  than canvas size and those with area not over the document canvas view will be clipped by your canvas size. Only the pixels over your document canvas will be visible.  The none visible pixels exists and will be saved in the PSD file.

If you can not post example PSD files that will show your problem all we can do is through out guesses. We have nothing but you words to go on nothing to look at.

PSB file type is for saving large files for PSD is limited to 2GB.  Why are you using psb now?   Why would you want to save file larger than 2GB and transfer the accross the internet.  I tought we were descussing PSD files. Files that are smaller.

I just don't understant then.  I do not understand "mo!!!!! Oo",  "take a image and slip it in Photoshop", "an image slipped in photoshop" are these Mac terms I use Windows.

Nothing is a PSB file in Photoshop or becomes a psb file in Photoshop.  Photoshop is not a file editor.  An image title line  in Photoshop may have .psb in it.  However it is not a .psb file.  What is in Photoshop is a Photoshop document. Photoshop can save PSB file amd other file types from documents.

U slip a image layer on your new doc.
U make a smart object.
