If you prefer processing RAW images with ACR instead of the camera maker’s proprietary software you might want to petition them to allow shooting DNG so that Adobe does not have to play catch-up with each new camera model’s RAW format.

Trying to blame Adobe for camera makers’ and your own decisions seems less than fully justified to me. (edited)

Please see for yourself which version of Camera Raw supports a camera and which version of Photoshop is compatible with that ACR version:

Never going to happen. CS6 is years old and Adobe supported it long after the newer version of Photoshop came out. That was at least 3 versions ago.

You can use the Free DNG converter program that Adobe offers to convert the RAW NEF files from that Nikon camera to DNG files and then they will open in your version of ACR and PS.

Or you can subscribe to the Photographer plan and get the newest versions of both LR and PS.

Using the free DNG Converter would be an alternative.

I have found an easy work around to allow you to edit the raw images from a Nikon D850 in Photoshop CS6. This requires that you have Adobe Lightroom ver 6.14. This is the last perpetual version of Lightroom. Lightroom Ver 6.14 will import the raw NEF files directly from your D850 using the USB connection cord. Once the files are imported into the Lightroom library, you can open them in Lightroom. I ususally make a few simple exposure changes in Lightroom and send them to Photoshop CS6 using the "edit in" command. When you do this with a D850 NEF file, Lightroom will tell you that the Camera Raw plug in in Photoshop is not compatible (because it is only 9.1.1 which was the last version acceptable to CS6). It will give you an option to send the raw image to CS6 "rendered in Lightroom".. By doing this the Camera Raw in Lightroom converts the image to a TIFF usable in Photoshop and the image will open in Photoshop. You can then make whatever adjustments or other changes to the image in CS6. When finished, save the image as a PSD file which you can print or open later in Lightroom or Photoshop CS6.

Take a look here

Camera Raw 9.1.1 was the final version which is compatible with CS6. No further Camera Raw updates will ever be available for CS6 meaning Raw files from any digital cameras released after 9.1.1 will not be supported in CS6.

9.12.1 is only compatible with Photoshop CC. So you'll never be able to edit D850 Raw files in CS6.

Using CS6, your only option is to use the free Adobe DNG converter to convert folders of D850 Raw files to DNG format. You then edit the converted DNG files (not the Raw files from the card inside the camera) in CS6.

”Adobe want to keep customers for their product...”. You know, I’m not sure whether people who purchased years ago and will never pay to keep up to date are the kind of customer Adobe need to keep....

How would you feel if you got a job and your employer said "I will pay you $100,000 the first year but you will have to work 3 more years for nothing". Would you take the job? I doubt it. But that is what you are asking Adobe to do.
