Touch up a photo with the Healing brush
The healing brush is now available in Photoshop on the iPad. Using this amazing tool, you can sample pixels from one part of an image and paint them in another area or layer to retouch the area. This is different from the clone stamp in that it will blend the source and the destination texture, lighting, transparency, and shading rather than just duplicating the source pixels in the new area as you paint them. For additional information, check out the document and video links at the bottom of this post.
❶ Select the Healing Brush tool from the toolbar; it is the one just above the crop tool. If it isn't the highlighed tool, just tap and hold the related visible tool, and then select the Healing Brush
❷ In the tool options panel that opens, tap the three dots icon to open the Healing Brush settings panel and set the options as desired.
➌ Tap and hold the touch shortcut while you tap the area you want to choose as the source for the Healing Brush. The brush will start from this location in the image when you paint with the Healing Brush.
➍ Paint over the area in your image that you want to retouch with the sampled pixels.
Besides retouching, this tool an be used creatively such as adding a snakeskin texture to the purse in this example. There are other ways to do this, such as using the clone tool at lower opacity or simply masking the texture and changing the blend mode, but I like the way the healing brush incorporates the color and lighting and blends the texture.
