Save for Web Doesn't work in Photoshop CS6

Hi, I've just upgraded to Photoshop CS6, and did the update to v13.04.  Get a message with Save for Web: "The operation could not be completed. A write permissions error has occurred." There is a bug fix for v12 for exactly this, but CS5.5 (not sure which version of 12 it was) worked fine on this machine.  On a Macbook 17 inch running OSX 10.7.5 with 8gig Ram and 2.5 Ghz I7.   Thanks!

This problem is solved.  The solution was complex, and since several of the other threads having to do with this seemed unresolved, I'll give some details.  I had an exceptionally positive Adobe Customer Service experience when I phoned for support, and worked with an excellent Adobe tech support specialist who was certain that this was a permissions issue.  Unlike any of the other permissions that I have seen discussed, she changed several permissions, including the actual permissions to user/l

Thanks --- Yes, I did repair permissions, but the problem remains.  (Answer to second question at end of this post.)  I have also tried deleting the Save for Web permissions file: Library/Permissions/Adobe Save for Web 13.0 Prefs, but that does not fix it either.  I also watched the Julianne Kost video on resetting permissions, but didn't go through all of it because there is no file inside the folder Libray/Permissions/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings, which is the file that I understood she was saying to remove.   There is such a file in the folder Library/Permissions/Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Settings which appears to be what she was referring to, it's called Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Prefs.psp.

Because on Quit Photoshop I get this message after the failure of Save for Web:

Could not save Preferences because the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file. Use the ‘Get Info’ command in the Finder to ensure the file is unlocked and you have permission to access the file. If the problem persists, save the document to a different file or duplicate it in the Finder

, I'm tempted to move the CS5.1 prefs into the CS6 folder.  Is it possible that that file should have been created in the upgrade and for some reason was not?

Finally, it's not clear what drive I'm saving to because the failure occurs before you can see the save screen.  It is probably a separate hard drive (becuase that was where I last saved when it was working, and because the Save As dialog still defaults to that first), but I have tried disconnecting that and it did not fix the problem, or change it.

Thanks very much!

Unlike any of the other permissions that I have seen discussed, she changed several permissions, including the actual permissions to user/library/Preferences;  that is, to the entire Preferences folder in the user library, not just the Adobe components.  How this would have been changed, and apparently changed just since downloading the CS6 update I cannot guess, if in fact it was.

The Adobe Tech Support analyst (screen sharing) reset several other permissions to read and write, but this was the very mysterious one for others to be aware of.  In the Get Info / Permissions pane, at first the actual user account (there is only one on this machine) and the admin were not visible.  She added them using the plus button in that pane.  Once visible, they could not be changed, a mystery which is still not solved.  She said (correctly) that that problem was not something related to the Adobe software but to this machine, and that Apple should be able to help.  The final mystery is that when I phoned Apple a few hours later, both permissions (user account and system) could now be modified.

Once the permission for the user/library/preferences folder was set to read and write for the user account I was using, the problem was completely solved.  I cannot be sure that it was not also partly solved by some of the other permissions that the Tech Support Specialist had changed for me.

Thanks very much, and Thank You to Adobe Technical Support!!

I found the actual problem and solution

The problem is with the file "Adobe Save for Web CS6 Prefs" located at ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Plugins/Adobe Save for Web CS6/Photoshop/

If you open it with TextEdit, you will likely see a file path that doesn't exist anymore. Mine was "/Users/<username>/Pictures". I just deleted the last /Pictures and it started working perfectly.

I assume the problem was that I have moved the Pictures folder from my HomeDir to my SD Card. The symbolic link was not good enough for Photoshop and was causing it to give errors.

Can anyone help me with the problem? I'm having the same message when trying to save a 12 second PNG Sequence to GIF - using a PC and CS6. I can't see any troubleshooting guides for my OS and can't seem to get hold of anyone at Adobe either!

Thanks

Laura

Search for this file -> Adobe Save for Web CS6 Prefs and open it with Notepad. I am sure you will find a path that does not exist in it.

Thanks for the quick response. That search didn't bring anything up but I did find a Save for Web.8be under Required>Plug-Ins> Import-Export however it's just a huge misc script file and some programming. There was also a file named PresetImportExport.jsx in the Required folder but that was mostly code as well.
