You have to read this to understand raw files:

The first link tells you which ACR version you need for a given camera, the second one which ACR version a given Elements version can support. Your Elements version is much too old and can't be updated. You need to buy a newer version of Elements, following the above faq. The free solution provided by Adobe is the DNGconverter which you can download from the links in the faq. That standalone app, not a plugin, will convert a whole folder of your raw files to the DNG raw format that your current Element version can read and edit. An additional step, but free and with the same quality.

Camera raw 6.2 is the newest version that photoshop elements 8 can use.

(the updaters on older versions of pse are sketchy at best)
