Hi,

The file menu and all other top menu dropdown features are not working on my Elements 2024 program installed on my HP laptop running the latest version of Windows 11. Any suggestions would be welcome?

Was it running previously?  If so, try resetting the preferences file. Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

If you have an ultra-wide screen monitor, change the size of the program window so that it has more of a 16:9 ratio.

Does you computer have an integrated graphics card as well as a separate graphics card?  If so, disable the integrated GPU from device manager.

Do you use the Organizer?  If so, are you have any problem with its menus?

If none of these suggestions work or are applicable, give us a screenshot of your monitor and explain in more detail what you mean by the menus not working.

Many thanks for your prompt response to my query😊 I do not have any
problems using the top menu (File, Edit etc) in Organiser.
PE 2024 is installed on a recent model HP laptop using Windows 11 and a
15.6 inch standard monitor with integrated graphics.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and have had to same problem
with the ‘old’ and ‘new’ instals.
In the ‘PE Editor’ program, the top drop down menu is incomplete with very
faint ‘selections’ in the drop down, and making a selection on one of the
options has no effect ie no activity at all. Whereas the ‘Organiser’ top
menu works normally. It is probably something simple in the settings which
has disabled the functionality of this aspect of the menu, but I have not
had any luck finding what it is.
I have used PE for many years now in its many versions and have never
experienced this type of issue.
Very grateful for your assistance😊

  • Do you have the Taskbar set to autohide?  If so, turn that setting off.
  • Make sure your graphics driver is up to date.
  • Can you change between Quick, Guided and Advanced modes?
  • Can you access the Menus via keyboard shortcuts?  E.g. Alt+F for the File menu.

Hi again Greg,

Graphics driver (Intel HD) up to date, cannot accessing via Alt+F gives same result with file items in light text and no response when selected. I can change between various modes for image manipulation. Graphic menu items on LHS work ok, but drop down menu items either not available  or not 'active' eg not 'Print' command.

Autohide Taskbar is a Windows setting.  Does the Windows taskbar only appear if you hover over the bottom of your monitor?  If so, Windows has the setting on.

Can you access Preferences using Ctrl+K?

No, the Windows taskbar is always available. The headings of the taskbar
are all displayed in Elements but there is no functionality of the options
under each heading, and the options available under each heading displayed
in light text, not the usual darker text. All is ok in Organiser and the
taskbar is fully functional.

You can try contacting Elements support. You can start a chat session by going to the Contact Adobe Support page. (https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen) Make sure you are signed into your Adobe account and try typing Agent when the chat window opens. (If you use my link, the chat window should open automatically.)

With your permission, Support can take control of your computer and see what is going on.

Are you opening 16 Bit raw files in the Editor.  Many menu functions will be greyed out if you are.  The solution would be to change the file to 8 Bit under the Image>Mode sub-menu.
