In what way would it be a killer on your eyes?  I was a PS user too and think PSE is amazing.

Hello,

There is no provision to customize the UI color theme in Photoshop Elements 2020. The only part of the UI that can be changed is the canvas area. Right-click anywhere on it to bring up the color choice dialog. Please refer to https://community.adobe.com/t5/Photoshop-Elements/How-to-change-the-Worspace-Background-color/m-p/10...

Thanks

Just bought the Elements package, 2020 edition, and was surprised to see there was no dark theme support in the Organizer, my previous version (11) had this which I liked a lot. Is there any way to fix this with some tweak?

You can change Photoshop 2021 to dark or lighter mode by using: SHIFT + F1

@Abbey5E54, this is the Photoshop Elements forum, not the Photoshop forum.  (And in Photoshop 2021, you need to use Shift+F1 and Shift+F2 to cycle backwards and forwards through the different modes.)

I am profoundly disappointed that Adobe does not offer the dark mode on the 2021 version of Photoshop Elements. My impression is that Adobe omitted this feature deliberately to annoy its customers and to entice them to upgrade to PS.

Shame on you Adobe for not having the fortitude to offer an over priced PS Elements without even the basic UI modes that one can even get with free software of similar standard.

It is sad, a company, that once had an excellent report with its customers is now playing strategic and discriminating games with its various versions of software – that is, the customers who buy PS Elements shall be punished for not having purchased PS of the CC cloud.

Best regards,

Ernst Zimmer (a long term customer of Adobe).

A long term user of an old PSE version before  PSE11 can't boast to be a "long term customer".

A very, very small number of old PSE users prefer the old dark Organizer interface. It's not a problem with the editor where you can change the background color. By the way, choosing black image window backgroung may enhance the colors of the image by contrast, but that may be misleading.

Back to the organizer with its revamped PSE11 interface.

I would NEVER go back to the old UI. The dark interface is a serious issue for my old eyes (I would not say a 'killer', but a remnant of the over contrasty UI of the old days; the kind UI and ergonomy specialists are no longer supporting).

More important, the new interface has decisive advantages for organizing.

- aptitude to differentiate the status of thumbnails by subtle grey variations which let you distinguish immediately the selected ones, the stacked/versioned ones and so on. No aggressive differences.

- better adaptation to the new modes of editing: not only in a controlled environment but also on laptops in any kind of lighting.

It's legitimate that you ask what you prefer, ok. The problem is that it's not a question of  'omitting' an alternative in interface, it's that the alternative does not and can't exist for the current interface choices. It's not a simple matter of changing 'skins' or backgrounds. Creating an alternative based on your tastes would be creating a whole new software: a big and costly change for how many potential buyers?

My suggestion for you now is to take advantage of what Adobe makes available for you for free: use Bridge as your organizing software instead of the organizer. No need for a subscription.
