Why on earth does it go automatically onto the timeline and disrupts my entire movie? I just want that clip in the Project Assets, and then drag it manually out where I want it afterwards.
I don't find any options to change that either
I found another way around this also. Just do an undo after you add the black clip. It goes away from the timeline, but it remains in the Project Assets.

Make sure your Work Area Bar is at the end of your clip when you do that so it doesn't disturb the rest of the timeline.

Why would you have a black clip just in the Assets?

A project template. Setting up the assets with folders and media used in all projects.
For example: producing a series of videos which include the same intro and outro and other media.
