AJA Software causing Premiere Pro 24.6.1 Crash Issues

I had been having issues for over a week with Adobe Premiere 24.6.1. Every time I would play video that I had in my timeline, it would go for about 2-3 seconds, and then Premiere would completely crash. It didn't matter what kind of file I would put into my timeline, how big the file was, etc. No matter what would be in my timeline, if I would try to play it, Premiere would crash.

I tried every possible suggested fix online for this, and nothing worked. I deleted my Media Cache, Uninstalled and Reinstalled Premiere, reset my preferences, and so on and so forth. FINALLY, I figured out that I could re-install old versions of Premiere. So, I re-installed version 24.6, and now my program isn't crashing anymore. I don't know if there's a bug with 24.6.1, but it should probably get looked into. This is the first time ever I have had problems with my application crashing after a software update.

Hi @David31343867hbfp - It looks like the AJA software is crashing Premiere.  Can you please try downloading the latest software or uninstalling and see if you still are receiving crashes.  Let us know what version you have installed so that we can let AJA know.  Thank you and let us know if that helps your issue.

@jamieclarke I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say "the AJA software." What is the software called, and where would I find what version I have installed?

Hi @David31343867hbfp - Here is some documentation on uninstalling AJA desktop software since it sounds like you don't use it. https://www.aja.com/support/item/7129

Run the AJA Uninstaller, located in the AJA Utilities folder in the Mac Applications folder.

I do use it - I just have several AJA applications, so I didn't know if you were referring to one in particular.

I ran the AJA uninstaller, and rebooted my computer. I then re-updated Premiere to the latest version. Thus far, I am not experiencing crashes the way I was before. I will continue to work on projects and come back to this thread if it happens again.

That's great news!  I'm curious what version of the AJA Desktop software are you using?

Well, that didn't last long. Once again, I'm having issues with Premiere crashing. So, it appears uninstalling the AJA software and reinstalling with the latest version did nothing to help the problem. I went backwards to Premiere 24.5 once again to see if that will help with the issue. Thus far, I have not had crashes. If the issue IS with the AJA software somehow, I don't know what that issue is, or why it would only apply to the latest version of Premiere.

I was dealing all day with the same problem (24.6.1 version). It was imposible to edit until I reinstall an older version (24.5_compilation 57) and it has solved my problem. Apparently is an issue with MXF files, but not sure.

You can try this.

Having the same problem on 24.6.2 -- followed the recommended downgrade to 24.6.1 - no dice.

No AJA software installed on mac either.

C'mon guys it's been a month. What am I paying you for?

I went all the way back to version 24.5, and I haven't had any issues with
crashing since doing so. I just don't update when it's recommended to me.

My post seems to have disappeared, so I'm putting it again -

I have posted to this community about this problem in the past, but I have to bring it up again now that Premiere 25.0.0 is out. Every time I try to play video of any kind in my sequence, Premiere crashes. I had this problem when the last version of Premiere came out (Every update after 24.5). The only work-around that I could use was re-installing older versions of Premiere. I had to go all the way back to Premiere 24.5, and then I could play files again. Since I saw 25.0 came out, I thought I'd update to see if the problem had been resolved. It has not been. I am working on an iMac Pro with Radeon Pro Vega 64 16 GB and Sequoia 15.1 macOS.

And I already sent crash reports with my username on them.

Hi @David31343867hbfp - I see your crash report and it seems you are crashing in transmit with AJA IO4KPlus.

What version of MacOS are you using?

Do you still have AJA software installed and if so what version?
There also seems to be some extra steps involved when installing the latest version of AJA Software.  Here is the manual for mac version 17.1

Yes, if you go back and look at the messages that have been posted since our previous engagement, you can see that I still have AJA software. I use it because of my AJA io 4K Plus device. The AJA software is the latest version - I actually answered that question back previously in this thread as well. It's AJA Software Installer Version - 17.1.0.900
AJA ControlPanel, Control Room, System Test - 17.1.0. My post you just replied to also says my version of MacOS - Sequoia 15.1.

Yes - I had not gone through the extra steps before you asked. But, I now have done so. The latest version of AJA Software is 100% installed, and my Premiere 25.0 still crashes. It actually crashes faster now. I just generated an error report, and I will send that with my username on it.

H@David31343867hbfp - Can you try uninstalling your AJA software and then install version 16.2.6?

Yes - I re-installed Premiere 25.0.0 and then un-installed the latest version of AJA Software, and downloaded version 16.2.6. I then went into Premiere and attempted to playback video in my sequence - it still crashes. No change. I sent the crash report with my username attached.

Do I need to reach out to them as well? Is there someone specific I should contact? You're certain it's an issue on AJA's side of things, and not Premiere? Because it still seems bizarre that I only have crash issues with Premiere versions beyond 24.5. I can edit in 24.5 just fine, but when I get 24.6 or newer, that's when I start to have issues.
