Closed caption with VR effects

I am having an issue with the latest update that closed caption no longer seem to accept effects , I need to flatten them out in VR using VR Plane to sphere to match an existing edit - is there work around to add effects to the new closed captions?

See my post here for issues related to nesting a sequence with a Captions Track in another sequence. That does allow using the Effect Controls on the nested "clip."
