Delays and freezes when switching tools (CC 2017.1.2 on MacOS 10.12.5)

"I've been experiencing delays and freezes (beach ball) for several seconds when switching tools, performing timeline actions (moving/nudging clips) or importing new assets. The app would then freeze for several seconds and then pull through. Often the problem doesn't occur for some time and then occurs several times after one another. This happens several times/hour.

I'm seeing this on multiple systems (5K iMac's and 2013 MacPro) using CC 2017.1.2 on MacOS 10.12.5. All macs are using OpenCL for Mercury Playback. All projects were created in the new version (no clunky updated files). It happens in both simple projects (single cam ProRes/H264 files) and complex ones (multicam). I've not seen this one before.

Has anyone else experienced the same? Anyone had input from Adobe or found a workaround or culprit?

I've already switched off all the 'usual suspects': composite preview during trim, maintain audio pitch while shuttling, show duplicate frame markers, the lumetri scopes, Mercury Transmit. All that stuff that is known to cause havoc before.

Thanks for all the brotherly and sisterly support!

This was is being copied from somebody else because he's describing ecxacylu the same issue i have. Anybody else experiencing the same issue? Please help !

Me too! I am on a brand new iMac running 10.12.5 with Premiere 11.1.2 and after working for an hour or two, the beach ball consistently pops up when I click on any timeline tool. My project is pretty simple, 1080p footage, sometimes 4k with 1280p proRes proxies, no crazy effects. Help, Adobe!!

Hey, this is the answer that I got. I hope it works for you:

Hi Rom1108,

I am sorry for this trouble.

Have you tried resetting the Preferences? If not, please try this:

Close All Adobe applications in Activity Monitor.

  • Double click on blank desktop screen first.

  • Now on top left corner of the screen (near Apple Icon), click on Go > Go to Folder.

Location 1: In the box type ~/Library/Application Support.

Location 2: In the box type ~/Library/Preferences.

Location 3: Documents folder.

In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'

Launch Premiere, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.

Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks,

Kulpreet Singh

It seems like it worked for me. Problem still occurs but much less often and for shorter times.

Im  experiencing the same on both my 2017 iMac 64 GB of RAM, 8 GB graphics ram And my MacBook 15 inch 2016 is Touch Bar. Latest version of Premiere Pro.  Once again a very annoying bug that’s been happening for quite some time now and is simply unacceptable for so called pro Video editing software. Adobes Support for the Mac platform is simply terrible. Working with DaVinci resolve or  Final cut pro is so unbelievably fast these days compared to Premiere But I’m actually considering to make the switch if this nonsense of Mac support by Adobe will continue. Get it together Adobe and fix your half assed Mac support please!!!
