I have the latest version of Premiere Pro (15.0.0 Build 1) and am having difficulties editing and rendering video shot on Canon cameras in Cinema Raw Lite.

This footage is either 4K or 8K, and I have Premiere's ingest settings set to Copy and Create Proxies and the preset to H.264 Low Resolution Proxy. When importing footage into Premiere with these settings, Adobe Media Encoder thows a bunch of errors that look like this:

- Source File: E:\Video\TestCanonR58K\035A4983.CRM
 - Output File: E:\Video\TestCanonR58K\Pr2\035A4983_Proxy.mp4
 - Preset Used: Custom
 - Video: 1024x540 (1.0), 29.97 fps, Progressive, Hardware Encoding, Nvidia Codec, 00;00;01;20
 - Audio: AAC, 320 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
 - Bitrate: VBR, 1 pass, Target 10.00 Mbps
 - Encoding Time: 00:00:05

Sometimes Media Encoder just hangs and has to be killed with Task Manager and sometimes it just crashes. It has never run to completion on these raw files.

I can edit the footage in its native 8K or 4K state, but needless to say doing so is very sluggish.

Is this a known issue? Is there a fix or workaround?

My system configuration:

Premiere Pro v15.0.0 build 1
Windows 10 Pro build 19042 (64-bit)
AMD 32-core Threadripper CPU
128 GB RAM
Various nVME SSD and 7200 RPM hard drives
Nvidia RTX-3080 GPU
Nvidia Studio Driver version 461.92

have you looked at the canon white paper about the raw format introduced and the various things to consider when shooting that format ?

my memory isn't great cause I'm old and retired, etc. But a while back canon released a software thing ( probably called a firmware thing ? ) where you could update an eos camera ( dslr ) to shoot raw stuff.

There was a white paper about it.

Your camera with larger chip than previous models maybe has that already as an option.

In my mind this update simply increases the dynamic range but still compresses the stuff to h264 unless you go out of hdmi to ninja or something ( at full hd probably ).

anyway, that's what you want to know about....

1) how does editing program deal with bastardized raw with common codecs of the past.

2) how to proxy stuff so you can actually edit stuff that was never meant to be edited but only 'viewed'.

good luck

: )
