The code information for archive.org is very convoloted (IMHO) and there is no preset in Premiere.  We have bunch of video to upload I and hate to spend the time uploading bits that are just going to get thrown away during the encoding process.  On the one hand the directions say to upload in the "largest possible" file format.  On the other hand it appears to be saying the final format is

          video (h.264):
640x480 (width scaled if wider/narrower than 4x3 ratio)
          ~768kb/sec (maxrate)
          audio (AAC):
          stereo, 128kb/sec 44.1Khz sampling

Which is actually pretty compressed(?)

For folks that work a lot with archive.org what are you using for bit rates, size, etc. ?

according to https://archive.org/help/derivatives.php

it takes the input and outputs everything as mpeg2.

so its entirely up to you what you want to encode with.

i'd probably just go h.264 so I'm not uploading a massive file size that isn't any better quality.

-or

if for some reason, you prefer to not have your item create the derivative of one or more of the audio or video (mp3 mp4) formats, you can upload to your item a special "rules" named "_rules.conf".
