Exposure issue

There is normal exposure, but it was rejected by exposure problem. Why?

Hi,

Normal exposure is good, however, the rose in the foreground is very dark and quite different from the lighter background. How you made the foreground much darker might be a problem. Look at this at 100% and notice the hard dark edge around the flower. It gives it a cutout look. Buyers would prefer to darken and lighten a photo - even in part  - on their own for their work. I think exposure could be the same for all items in the photo for resubmission or you might like to crop the background out of the focused flower image. Lighter flower will allow more of the detail also. Best regards, JH

But the hard dark edge around the flower its not an exposure problem, its real dark edge of flower.

Hi, No question, the dark edge of the rose most likely as it is but it is so much darker than the rest of the photo it causes a problem look to prospective buyers. Please look at this from a buyers point of view. Make it strikingly beautiful and bright and crop it for best presentation. Only suggestions. Do look at it closeup also. Play with the lighting until the result is the best for maximum delight to the eye.

It is best if you know how to change a few things to make images more uniform in presentation, quality, beauty, and lighting. This photo was rejected - try a few things and resubmit. Have fun with it and don't give up. Best, JH

There is a problem with exposure of the rose. It is underexposed:

However, there maybe another problem with this image. Commercial value. There are a lot of flower photos, so in order to be accepted, the flower shot needs to have the WOW factor. I'm afraid this image doesn't have it.

Hi rickey 336, Excellent reply. In this case, will less or more exposure brighten this rose? without making the background too light which is already lighter. I am mostly an illustrator so exposure is not usually an issue for me. Thanks. Carry on. Best JH

It would be better to take a meter reading of the rose itself. As the rose is dark, and the background light, taking an overall exposure reading wouldn't be accurate. However, this would then make the background overexposed, so one would have to change their composition to eliminate this potential problem.
