I have a project which I worked very hard on which crashed during a render. My entire PC crashed and restarted. The file cannot be decoded and will not open anymore. Is there any hope in reopening this file?

I attached the log.

Thanks.

Hi @MoreRightRudder,

Thanks for the description and the log.

Unfortunately, when the project file is corrupted, this is usually really complicated to get it back. You can try to open a backup (which should be in the same folder as the original .SPP file), or you can send us the file and we'll take a look, but I can't guarantee you the project can be saved.

Best regards,

I have accepted my loss. I disabled backups since the backup makes an enitrely new backup every time and eats your disk space up real quick. I have also noticed that when using black masks primarily, the size of the file increases significantly. If you guys improved this, and made it so that backups can overwrite themselves to keep one continuous backup, then that would be a good way to encourage people like me to use the backup function, preventing my headache.

I also think the cause of the crash was due to the "Override viewport resolution" being on and at a higher resolution than my monitor, causing significant CPU and GPU usage increases in a short amount of time. Lesson learned.

Thanks for responding!

We know the current footprint of the .SPP saves can take some space, but the coming updates will probably interest you, so stay tuned. In the meantime, if you don't already know, there's a "save and reduce file size" option in File > More save option that can already help.

For the "Override viewport resolution" crash, I'm not aware of such an issue, but thanks for the report, we'll keep an eye on the subject.

Best regards,
