QoL improvements for the Path Tool

I love the path tool. It's perfect for laying down panel lines and paint stripes, among other things. I do have some ideas to increase its functionality and provide better quality of life for its use:

  • Fill mode for closed loop paths for masks and color/height/etc. information.
  • The ability to set default options for corner/smooth vertex types, and for the Path tool to remember what was previously selected when creating new paths.
  • The ability to select and move all vertices as a group
  • The ability to snap to lines and vertices of other paths
  • The ability to select brushes (for example, alpha stamps) to be applied on the start and end vertices
  • The ability to 'center' the placement of alpha stamps and etc. instead of starting the placement at the beginning of the path. (Red x indicates current behavior, blue x indicates new optional 'centered' placement behavior.)

  • The ability to alternate rotations for each alpha, brush, and etc on a path. (Orange indicates a 180 degree rotation on stamps from green.)

  • Angle snapping in selectable increments when holding the shift key.

Thanks for the great work!

Hi Carlos,

Thank you very much for the interesting feedback!

Most of the suggested features have already been talked about, and some may appear in a close future (no promises). With that being said, I'm not sure we have already talked about a 180 degree rotation between each stamp, and I personally love the idea! I'll make sure the rest of the team sees your message.

Thanks again.

Hi, thanks! I'm very much looking forward to these improvements.

My thought process behind the alternating flip option came about when I was using alpha stamps to create displacement and normals for an girder or truss type of structure like the example in my original post.

Thinking  about it some more though, I think having selectable increments for each new stamp (for example, the first instance of a stamp on a path would have a rotation of 0 degrees, the next stamp would be rotated 5 degrees, then 10, and so on) could make such an option even more flexible.

I would also like to add these two suggestions as well:

  • having preset closed loop paths like rectangles, circles, and etc. as in Photoshop or Illustrator
  • chamfer and fillet operations to existing verticesBienCarlos25255883pnrr_2-1693827274070.png
