I just duplicate the current sequence in the project panel, and then rename the active sequence with an incremental increase in number. so for example, my current sequence is project_assy21. I duplicate it, and then rename it project_assy22. And the copy just has a the word copy appended to it...

are you using the same format media that you've previously used without issues? And using any of the new Premiere features?

not sure your workflow makes sense, bwdik particularly since your having these issues. Why not just play your sequence sped up to "speed up" the edit process or "scrub" (dragging the playhead thru the timeline) to find your edit points. You might learn how to edit using the transcription, a workflow I find of limited use, but might work for you. I don't mean to be dismissive of the way you're working, just think may be better ways to work.

both HEVC and H-264 are not great editing formats. In both of these formats, each frame does not exist on it's own but in relation to previous and later frames which can add a great burden on premiere. I suggest you try transcoding to an all iframe format like prores where each frame is complete. And proresLT or Proxy are great proxy formats. Happy to go in to more detail explaining the advantages of this workflow...

tell us your clip properties. If the source is from a smartphone, the problem could be caused by a variable frame rate. use mediainfo to determine whether your source is variable or constant frame rate https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download if it's variable use handbrake to convert to constant frame rate setting the quality slider in the video panel to maximum or use shutter encoder https://www.shutterencoder.com/en/ which allows you to transcode directly to prores or other mezzanine formats, "First choose a video codec. Then in the "Advanced features" section check the box "Conform by:" and set your frame rate in images/seconds." from ShutterEncoders FAQ. You want to figure out what the original target frame rate of the smartphone or screen recording was and set to that in the conform dialog.

Try importing it into resolve. (there's a free version). If that works, export an xml from resolve and import that into premiere.

Always a good idea to Copy media to a drive rather than work with it on a connected device. Not sure what happened here, but it may not be Premiere's fault. And always important to back up your media. My mantra: EVERY DRIVE WILL FAIL (EVEN SSD'S). IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF IF, BUT WHEN. When I get media for a job, I always back it up to a couple of drives and give one to the client... Even having 2 backukps makes me nervous...

I have "maximize or restore frame size" mapped to shift-s so I can quickly fill the frame with the active panel. Maybe not ideal for this, but might help in the meantime.

You can post feature suggestions on the adobe Premiere forum.

But Allowing a program to automatically delete files could be dangerous. and Gotta say it's crucial that you manually monitor free drive space on a regular basis. Many programs can create cache files if you're not paying attention and people save files willy nilly to their desktop etc. You should keep at least 20% free space on your startup drive and at least 10% on other drives... (at least that's the accepted rule). I remember tech tool pro (a paid mac utility - not cheap) allowed you to set up automatic warnings. I imagine there are other alternatives... When I'm called in to troubleshoot a clients system, first thing I do is check available drive space...

I get this warning when I try and go to your website "www.insightcraftsmarketing.com doesn’t support a secure connection". and not sure what you're question is, so wary of going there. What is the issue you are having? Sumeet has explained the limitations within premiere and I've suggested an alternative.

not sure if this would be useful, but there are options that relate to captions in the export dialog that might help with this. Honestly, I had to dive deep into captions a few years ago for a dvd project (a nightmare since the only current dvd authoring program is a nightmare - we had a use an old machine with an old os to run dvdsp). But since then I've wiped the nightmare from my memory banks. Stan Jones here is the caption expert and might have some ideas for you. But gotta say, you need to pay attention when you're starting an export... can't tell you how many times I've unintentionally had the export limited to in to out... Having screwed up many many times, I've learned to check this out before I start an export. And also, in the export dialog, you can scroll thru the timeline. and you'll see if the captions are being displayed.

Unfortunately, AFIK, Adobe no longer supports Premiere versions except the latest 2. So you're probably out of luck if your hardware no longer supports the latest OS, etc.

Never easy to troubleshoot premiere problems from a distance so please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and if you have any 3rd party plugins installed for Premiere... Also, sequence settings and clip properties can also help. Although you can throw almost any format into premiere, some formats can be problematic, particularly on an underpowered system.

never seen this behavior. Do you have any media stored online such as dropbox, icloud, etc? If so, that could be the problem and it's never a good idea to work this way. Unless you've invested in a cloud based shared media solution, this is not a practical way to work

an edl should reference BOTH source timecodes and Sequence timecode. How did you get this edl? The formatting of edl's can be a little daunting. I suggest you edit a clip or 2 into a sequence and export an edl and see what it looks like. You might want to add the edl to this thread and I'll see if it's setup properly. Spent many many years building edl's for online video edits...

wondering if there could be a permissions issue on the "dropbox" folder. I mainly work on a mac, saving my project files to a local folder which automatically syncs to dropbox without any issues. So I'm not familiar with how windows handles permissions. Maybe try relocating the dropbox folder to your startup drive... And just another thought: is anyone else logged on to dropbox at the same time you're seeing this issue...

I have a clip that is 24fps and when I bring it into premiere and "interpret" it to 23.976 to match my sequence settings... the clip displays properly in the project panel, but if I select the clip and go to "properties" it says it's still 24fps... And if I edit into a 23.976 fps timeline, and select the clip in the timeline and go to "properties" it says it's 24fps. Is this a bug, or am I just having a senior moment... working in Premiere 24.3.0. It looks fine as far as I can tell in the timeline. The is for a sample edit for a DP in which I have a variety of sources all with different flavors of approximately 24 fps..
Thanks as always.

but in some circumstances, render and replace is the way to go. It locks in the "render" so that you won't lose the render if you accidentally change any parameters for the clips and if I remember correctly, you can move the clip around, etc. So it might make sense to investigate this further to see why this is not working.
