I'm not going to bother challenging the endless ego of so labeled experts here except to say that that price is way off. Furthermore prints don't have pixels, and you are referring to interpolated display at odd magnifications. For adjusting sharpness critically for prints you view at "print size" after dividing the pixel dimension by the real monitor width in inches and entering that number in the correct box in the preferences, as sharpness in a print is apparent. Good luck with the inbred Adobe corp ego problem.

Wrong about "native color space is all you need." And, we work backward, first stating what the end product will be. If it's printed media you DO NEED the capacity to display a high % of Adobe RBG color space as a printer will need that information. "Adobe RBG monitor" without a % isn't even a thing as you note, but what is pertinent is the percentage of that color space that is displayable. You get a monitor that is CAPABLE of displaying a high % of Adobe RGB, you then shoot, edit, and display on the monitor in Adobe RGB and you have a workflow.

I see you have your answer, good. I'll offer some added clarification that might sound tedious but is useful. You posted, "Adobe temp files" but notice; they are folders not files. The difference matters. Whenever a computer needs a space to hold a file in progress, for instance a large file that is being converted to another format and needs a few seconds to finish, it creates a temp file, sometimes in a folder made for that purpose and sometimes in a fresh temp folder like the ones you see. You shouldn't mess with the temp files and usually can't as they are locked until the process is finished. Nor can you mess with the temp folder holding them if the process is not finished, you will get an error message saying so. When the process is finished, the temp file goes away and the folder is empty. So, if a temp folder is empty, it can be deleted. A fresh one is created to replace it when needed, often under a sequence of number-names like yours.

This post's title is derogatory nonsense that could very well have a harmful effect on new users and willing learners by innapropriately discouraging them.
I've just suffered through a like series of replies with respect to the gude*.log issue, where I've been told, while offering workarounds that, "Bridge is useless & is a waste of hard drive space." This is the reverse of community support, and it's false, and it yet stands.

Editing is done to a mutually understood end goal, which has not been clearly discussed here. Of particular importance is to know how the image pupose; billboard or thumbnail, paper pamphlet or cover of Vogue. That's the first issue with any editing project, find out the end goal. Then relate that to the resources available (do we have a photographer, is the subject available?) make clear the difficulty and time involved and the options, then pick out a path to get to the goal. Or change the goal. Communication is key to editing. And it seems what is wanted is some guidance for a do-it-yourself fix, but this can actually be longer than other methods. So the devil is in the details, which have to be discussed. P.S. It may be all about the apron. 🙂

Thanks for the friendly affirmation. The process I mentioned is not "right-click/open," (nor is it right-click/edit). Those two behave just like click/open. The process I mentioned is "right-click/open with." I use this software all day every day, and I have the investigative persistence of a drug dog. I can assure everyone reading my work-around that any of the methods I've detailed do what I've written about them without fail. If there is an apparent issue otherwise, it's apparent, and due to some variation not written of by me. The devil is in the details, but as with all things computational it's a perfectly consistent devil. That said, what would be dispositive is a repeatable example, as you would agree a simple step in the use of a PC is repeatable and does not suffer from even a miniscule percentage chance of changing. ~~~~ Back to Bridge, another important use for it is speedy full-screen professional presentation to either a client or a boss, getting the work of getting approvals among many variations of an image a very productive process that the decider sees as very slick. You do have to learn the software to do this I recommend a Lynda type training video set. You can for instance before a meeting tag ("unfinished" "reject" "keep") & rate (1-5 stars) then sort by those criteria, then when the decision maker arrives you present a limited set via full screen display. You can reject or rate higher/lower directly during the process of viewing via the keyboard. The same process works for a first look at images taken off a camera. It is super handy when a photographer delivers multiple like images as with a sports event, because you can L/R arrow back/forth so that tiny differences become readily apparent. It lowers mistakes, maximizes use of time and gets the best out of what you have. You do have to learn the software, I recommend a Lynda Linkdin type training video set.

Thanks for the appreciation. Right-click/open with Photoshop works all the time, I assure you (why would it not?). I use this all day long for years. You cannot delete gude*.log if the file that generated it is open, or if the file is closed but that session of Photoshop is still open. To rid a drive of every instance of the file, close Photoshop and use Windows search for gude*.log (I can sense you know this), and every instance will show, and they can all be deleted at once. PS Bridge is endlessly useful, which you only discover when you use it for normal course of operations instead of Windows Explorer. However because it is so feature packed, it does have a learning curve that's steeper than seems at first. My experience with it includes professional training in it specifically, and I assure you there is a lot more going on with it than meets the eye, it takes use to discover all the cases where it does something to either save time, or control image files so that they stay organized. For instance if you are working on a set of 50 commerical photos and you need to back up versions in different formats as you go, resize and rename along the way, constantly compare verisions, and most of all understand what you have for assets, Bridge is a game changer. Windows btw does not show thumbnails of many useful formats, not just high end types but including ubiquitous png files. I do not mean to be pushy, I just feel obligated to pass the word on good things for users. PPS I'm not working on a network.

astroguy67 - You restated the work around incorrectly. Nowhere is it suggested that: "... users opening PhotoShop first and then using the File menu in PS to navigate to the directory where the file is located ...." The actual work arounds are as simple as your original method and cause no extra work. 1. Open Photoshop then click or drag the file to it. 2. Right-click/open with Photoshop, even if Photoshop is closed this generates no gude*.log. 3. Use Bridge. P.S. if "extra work" is a concern then stop using double-click and reset to single click.

"Right-click open/with Photoshop" when Photoshop is closed DOES NOT create the file. Bridge is a superb program, as is understood by professional photo editors like myself. I agree it's a bit complex, but so is Photoshop. Bridge is irreplaceablely useful for working with images. PS your note is way longer than needed to convey your simple points about use.

I respect your position, your comfort with your working methods is very important, perhaps most important. This is the case especially when users are not editing specialists who want to learn all about the software, but admin staff with limited by important repeating tasks. In your case to avoid creating the log files (which are harmless btw and can be ignored) use "right-click open with Photoshop." That should be easy to implement. Keep in mind for the future, should your people ever have the need, Bridge will add a lot of utility to what you do with your images: any batch process done in Photosho, mass renaming, mass selection etc. You say you can view your files in Windows, but if files are different in small details you will not see that in Windows but you will in Bridge. You mention needing to find old files; with Bridge you can assign keywords as files are archived, so that old files can be found by what they are images of, and you can create collections that cross folders saving a lot of time. On the downside Bridge can be confusing for new users, and recent changes have added some quirks.

Agreed. It's a non issue but for the alarm people are creating. 1. You use Windows search for "gude*.log" in the appropriate top level folder, and remove every instance of the pesky file on a drive in < a minute. 2. You then create no more by changing your habit to opening files with either Bridge (which is what it is made for) or "right-click open with." 3. Or as I do; use righ click "open with Bridge" which immediately allows me to see all the images in a folder full size etc.

gardis - Adobe doesn't jump because a problem is posted to the forum. This trivial bug doesn't even interfere with the operation of the software. The "staff" here are contributors, volunteers and some employees. We are also supposed to help each other, while Adobe works on the software according to their own corporate rules. If you review some posted questions at random, you will see that official answers always send people to help pages you could have found yourself Googling the issue, many of which are no help or are circular. Another common tactic is to tell people to reset their preferences. You never get some Adobe engineer answering a post, it would be too expensive. And for what you do get, you don't "pay big money" for the software, you pay a trival cost for what it does. And it works like magic for endless useful editing purposes. That said, you could find something else if the lack of attention in the forum bothers you that much. ~~~ The way to use the forum is to search for an issue, check to see if a workaround is available, take it and go back to work or play with the software. Posts about not being paid enough attention to are off topic whining, and they will ignore you. That's how it goes. You have zero authority over Adobe to make demands, believe me, you will find this out in the long run. If you want to just move forward on this log file nonsense, see my post, "Solved! - Unwanted "gude.log" file creation issue in Photoshop - Solved!"

Antisoda - You say, "A workaround only works for the people who are aware of it in the first place." I am happy to let you know this is not true. A work around works for anyone, anytime, even if they already have numerous log files all over numerous folders. Users need these things: 1. They need to be calmed about fears of virus, malware etc. it's not. It's a text file (and you can look at it by opening it notepad with no risk of harm to your PC if you are curious about it). 2. They need to be told how to remove all the files easily if they want them gone. To do this just search the drive once for gude*.log and delete them all at once. 3. They need a workflow to carry on using the software without generating more log files. I detailed three (3) methods in my post titled, "Solved! - Unwanted "gude.log" file creation issue in Photoshop - Solved!" 4. It is not true that, "not-that-advanced, regular users" need a "permanent solution," it's absolutely unnecessary. Making demands of Adobe in this forum is like hollering at a building. You can do it if you wish, but it's not worth the effort. 5. When you are driving and you come to a roadblock, you take another route, you don't sit and wait for the road to be opened. This is the same thing. Eventually Adobe will fix it. But even after Adobe fixes the issue; using Bridge to review & open and manage and batch process files will be the preferred way to work for serious users, artists, anyone with a lot of files with various types & attibutes. So it's not only a trivial issue, but with intelligent work methods any user, including new users, can prevent it from occurring.

You will be happy to learn, 1. Your reason you say you won't use Bridge is a myth: there is no requirement for what you call, "a system scan for listable files in Bridge" in order to use Bridge. You can just add Bridge to your "open with" options. 2. You don't have to use Bridge at all (though it is a fantastic software and is exactly what the name implies, the bridge between file collections and Photoshop) you can just use "open with" Photoshop. 3. Or you can open Photoshop first. There you go, no need to thank me have a productive time creating in Photoshop!

Are you trying to actually get work done in Photoshop? Of just interesting in commenting on the oddball creation of gude*.log and when Adobe will patch the software? If you are trying to get work done, just improve your Photoshop use practices by opening files either with Bridge (the best practice) or by right clicking, then "open with Photoshop." No need to thank me! And for the record you can, if you have put a shortcut to notepad.exe in the "send to" folder, right click a *.log file and send to notepad to see in this case it's ... guess what? That's right, a log file.

You say: "1) I can open an image file with a single double-click. Now, I need two. Adobe PS is rife with inefficiencies, and it sucks having to put up with one more." Is this a joke? You've been innefficeintly double-clicking, now I've given you a solution that uses two single clicks. Two clicks either way, not that it matters, because any editing takes dozens of clicks. You are complaining about an "inefficiency" that does not exist. Please, enjoy yourself, do as you like and complain to Adobe not to me.
