As other problems seem to exist, I just let you know that I have now been editing my book with FM 17.0.6 one full day. Excluding this disappeared workspace, all everything else seem to work normally in Windows 11.

My disappeared custom workspace was created with 17.0.5. Using that, I was able to change workspaces normally and they worked ok unless FM 17.0.6 update was made. My rebuild custom workspace is ok now in 17.0.6 but it remains to be seen what will happen with the next update.

After I updated to FM 17.0.6 my custom workspace disappreared (unstructured). I seem to have the *.cfws file in my Windows 11 C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\17\WorkSpaces\UnStructured\WYSIWYGView folder, but panels in FM have disapeared completely. Reselecting my custom workspace does nothing. I have always saved my workspaces. Is there s away to recover my old customer workspace? Is this WYSIWYGView folder enough for making backup for the next update?

I redefined the character style in LOT file so visually it is ok now. But, when the FM book gets updated the original bold red character style re-appears in LOT. Somehow book updating triggers importing character style from original file to the LOT file.

I have a tricky problem with automatically generated 'List of tables' document. I have table titles and a paragraph style for them. I generate a LOT where all table titles are listed with a page number. I have defined a paragraph style for a LOT lines/paragraphs having all fonts in plain black. Everything works, almost...
In source files, few table titles have emphasis character style to highlight part of the text in bold red. When I manually apply default character style on LOT paragraph, it changes fonts to plain black. But, the bold red fonts seems to re-appear to my LOT list in every book update, copied from source file. I have tried the definition <Default ¶ Font> in front of the LOT paragrah style in a reference page without success.
Somehow this original bold red lurks into my LOT although the LOT charracter style (plain black) is set in the Paragraph Designer. I have not found way to prevent this happening. What I have missed, any ideas?

Solved it just after posting the question. The inset text had also numbered paragraphs. The inset file and main chapter seem to have common paragraph autonumbering counter (I was not expecting this). Common counter changes my step7 to continue numbering with step4, because the last paragraph number in the inset text was 3. Well, now I know. Case closed.

Hi! I have a 2-column table of instructions. Left column has empty paragraphs with autonumbered text in each row: step1, step2, step3, etc. Right column is an instruction of each row/step. This works correctly in all tables, except in one table. This problematic table has left column steps like ..., step3, step4, step5, step6, step4, step5, ... so at step7 autonumbering decides to jump back 2 numbers?! All table rows on left coumns have similar empty autonumbered paragraphs, no difference at all. If I add rows before or after the step7 (which shows as step4), the step numbers are always correct. So, there is something odd in this the row step6 that causes numbering to jump 2 numbers backwards in the next row. Only somewhat unique thing is that row step6 (wrong number appears after is) has inset text in right column. I converted inset to text, did not help. I also mif washed the entire file, did not help either. Any ideas what is going on the step6 row?

The text inset frames and extra duplicate frames were on the body page. I am using only one two-column master page. I moved the text inset frames to the referenge page. Eveything seem to be working and no duplicate frames have appeared. I still don't know what happened but all is ok now. Thanks for the advice!

I have a Framemaker file containing all my text insets, each text is in its own text frame with a text flow name. All in one page, in one file and with different flow names. No problems using the insets. But, on the second text inset file page, there are empty text frames with the same flow names, all in the same order and all have order, sizes and locations of the original frames. Sometimes there might be more than 2 pages with empty text flow frames (idential pages with empty frames). I have no idea why they keep on appreading, nor I have succeeded to delete them. I can delete the extra frames but they keep on apperaring again while opening this inset file again. Luckily, this seems to not harm my book writing, but I am wondering if this causes some problems at background. I use the latest updated FrameMaker in unstructured mode. MIF wash did not help. I see increased stability problems after the last FM software update. What is going on here? How to fix this?

Yes. I have saved my workspace earlier. When this occurs, the right side area where the panels normally are is empty. And I cannot retrieve the earlier saved workspace either. The Jeff's idea of not having folder rights or folder/file missing for workspace saving could explain this but no access right changes should exist. Anyone know where workspace is saved?

My FM user interface seems to change (or reset) on its own so the panels on the right side I have customised are missing. I have now done the customization few times but it does not seem to stay. Previously I have saved my own interface but that does not restore my panels now. What might be ongoing here? How to ensure that user interface is not changing? I have not found ways or settings to fix this. Previously, over several years, this has not been occuring at all. Any ideas?

Take a look in the Framemaker 2020: pdf bookmark numbers missing? This is similar and a fix was found.

That explains the missing bookmark numbers, who would have guessed! Thanks for the advice. This reminds me of another strange behavior related to H1 colors. I use the custom (a brand color) blue text background in the H1. It was not transferred when importing formats from the style tempate to the chapter files. I manually changed the H1 background color in each chapter file. This might be related to the same heading color bug. This missing H1 bookamark numbers problem is solved. I made the fix and now all heading numbers in the pdf bookmarks are created correctly.

Paragraph designer shows autonumbering "character format = default font". H1 and H2 has the same font. The pdf bookmark H1 numbers are missing but show correctly in the TOC of the same pdf?

This is a book file with 25 chapter files. The Save as PDF is not possible. I printed to the Adobe PDF printer directly to a pdf file and via the *.ps file, and using the publish pod (with default settings). The all ouput versions are missing the heading numbers but they are visible on FM source files and in the TOC? I am using the FM unstructured mode.

Yes, this is about chapter headings. The autonumbering strings are H1: H:<$chapnum>\t H2: H:<$chapnum>.<n+>\t Printing is done via File/print book to the Adobe PDF printer. All SW is updated.

Framemaker 2020: The chapter headings apprear correctly with numbers and heading texts in TOC (in FM). I printed the complete book to a pdf. The heading texts are shown correctly in the pdf bookmarks, but the bookmark heading numbers at header1 level are missing? Header2 level bookmark heading numbers are correctly shown in the pdf. I have not found the root cause in pdf printing settings. H1 and H2 have similar autonumbering settings in the FM paragraph designer. Does anyone know what might be wrong? This is my first pdf printing with the new FM2020. My ealier FM12 did not have this problem.

I have a long text inset, spreading over several pages. I can use this inset normally, but inside the source file (in a separate file storing the inset text), the text frame seems to be visible only within a single page. How can I make the frame/text visible and easily editable over multiple pages?

FrameMaker 12, unstructured: I am considering using two-column pages in my book. Some of figures (and tables, too) require width of full two columns. For these wide figures I'd like to make a figure heading that is located below a figure and that have text frame width of full two columns. If I use a two column wide anchored text frame I get the heading text right but automatic numbering of the figure headings would not work because text frame is outside body text flow. I could maybe use a customized master page, split text flows on body pages or other own inventions. Now I am using numbering format for figure headings "F:Figure <n+>. " and auto numbering is working correctly across the book in single column pages. But, let's ask now from more experienced FM users, what is the recommended method to make this kind of wide figure headings on two column pages and simultaneously keeping automatic figure heading numbering working across the whole book?

Thanks - that corrected the problem. I was using Heading1 and Heading1First paragraph styles to fine tune how they continue flow at these locations. And forgot that when applying system variable. So Heading1 was showing correctly while Heading1First was not.

Framemaker 12, unstructured: I have a book file with several chapters in separate files. I also have a template file that is used to control all content files in my book. In this template file, I have the Running H/F 2 system variable on the header on a master page. Idea is to show heading 1 -level chapter name in a header of each page. I use File/Import/Formats command with all selections tagged to import all common settings from my template file to each book file. All files use single sided page layout with right master page only. For some reason, most of the book files do not show running chapter name in header. Few files do show it correctly. What might be the problem here? All files should have been prepared in similar method. How I could ensure that all pages do show running header names?
