Hi Dowding, Thanks for reaching out. Glitches like this can happen when 2 objects are occupying the same Z space. Try to move the stroke layer at least 1 pixel forward in the Z space. Hi there, Thanks for sharing the files. We're trying our best, but unfortunately, it didn't provide a reliable clue about the issue. If possible, can you share a dump file from your machine? 1. Launch After Effects and wait for it to freeze/hang. 2. Open Task Manager and find After Effects' process. 3. Expand and right-click > Create Dump File. Share that file and hopefully we can find the root cause. Thanks, Nishu

Thanks for reaching out. The Effects menu will become active when there's a layer selected in the Timeline. If a layer is not highlighted, there is no target for After Effects to apply effects to. Hi there, Thanks for reaching out. As I can understand, you're getting preview playback performance issue when your comp is above 15 FPS. Is that correct? What version of After Effects are you using? Hi there, thanks for reaching out. It is possible that the layer is there, but out of the camera view so it's not visible. Here's a tip: Enable the 2 Views option at the bottom right of the Composition panel. That should give you another view of your comp, but from the top. That view should help find the layer.
