yes I had read your reply, thannkyou. Well done figuring this out. I searched the exported text file of InDesign shortcuts to find anything that purposely advanced or backgracked on character or para styles and found nothing that seemed remotely possible of that. Seems like a bug rather than intended behavior (and who would allow 'e' or 'a' key to be a valid shortcut anyhow?!)

Ah, looks like Bridge was given the Premier and After Effects shortcut broswer/editor interface. Why can't they do it for all their apps? Starting with Acroabt which has nothing and actively blocks macOS shortcut software from working!

I didn't know Bridge had a shortcuts editor. I know the AI one quite well. Also I no the lack of shortcuts editor in Acrobat is a major failing. Especailly given that the latest version got rid of the customisable ribbon at the top of windows where we could add frequently used commands. And the fact that it actively blocks the macOS shortcuts in Systems Settings which you can normally use for apps that refuse to build their own shortcut editor! Acribat has always been the lame dog of the Adobe suite though in terms of GUI/UI/UX. Print shops rely on Acrobat plugins to get serious pre-press work done.

A simple InDesign file and for those who need instruction, the steps used to export your SHortcut Set as a text file and how to apply this InDesign style are on GitHub. (Since this forum refuses to upload any flies except PNG for me, oh Adobe, why's it's always like this with you these days!) https://github.com/aleith/indesign-keyboard-shortcuts

It can be really hard to locate the menu item or whatever else you are looking for in the Keyboard Shortcuts editing window when there's the potential for multiple panels and menus to overlap in that particular query. A fail proof way of find the item you need for your shortcut (if it exists) is to save the shortcut list to a text file. Then you can use whatver text editor you like to “Find” and “Find Again” the keyword you need. I've imported the text for one of my shortcuts sets to InDesign and applied some GREP styles to make it more legible. You can export your own shortcut set to text and import it to this InDesign file and just apply the "0. Body" paragraph style to make all the grep styles apply themselves to the relevant key names and other text. For some reason this forum wont complete the upload of any files i put here. Indd, pdf, idlk -- I'll try again later. I In the mean time I've put the relevant files on github. https://github.com/aleith/indesign-keyboard-shortcuts

is this evidence of a bug (I've seen many in InDesign over the years, especially concerning anything to do with complicated tables)? how can "next character style" be assigned to any key combo let alone the naked 'e' key?!

Ok, it's badly worded IMHO. I scanned all the test and tried the other links first. It appeared to me that was for logging issues that may identifiy a secutiry flaw in an Adobe product. You need to make it explicit that this is the link 100% of visitors are looking for by seperating that sentance into its on para and rewording it to be clearer… people don't care what kind of form it is, they just want the bug logging form! better still, why did Adobe abandon the User Voice forums to sharing bug information with Adobe **and** other users, who in some instances are more responsive than Adobe devs and customer service staff. Finally stop hiding the local area Adobe support phone number!! I and my previous companies have been paying out on multiple CC licences and before that on indiviudal Adobe apps right back to AI 3 and PS 1 and you think it's ok to hide the telephone support number?! Given the regualarity of major bugs I've started encountering in Adobe software since you off-shored it's development and started making UI interfaces in non-macOS native code to be in common with Windows PCs I've had so many project delaying issues with your software. with client-level implications. Not good at all — hiding from your customers is a patheticly shortsighted strategy.

They are hiding it... By @try67 Seriously, this company has major ethical challenges today. Take our money for 30 years then hide our local techincal support number… just in case people start using it. Adobe, your legacy products can only last so long before the compeditors offer good enough to get out from under your thumb. To submit bugs you can use this page, but don't expect much in terms of a reply or a quick solution: https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html Is it only me or does this webpage have zero appearences of a form on it? I've tried in Safari and Firefox, no form for the last month or longer!!

I uninstalled, used the Acrobat cleaner application and reinstalled from a Acrobat using a downloaded DMG file that Support statff directed me to and this fixed this and issues I was having with the Pan (hand) and Selction (Arrow) tools and page content blinking on and off. I couldn' find the tech supportṯ telephone number on the Adobe Support pages, It's like they are hiding it today. I had it stored in my phone from using it so much in the past when I was a daily driver of most of the CC suite. They got this sorted, in my experience that's the step to take, Discussion forums dont offer much on bugs like this.

https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html An adobe support call centre worker just told me to use wish form to put in my critque of the new Adobe Acrobat interface (it is really a sacrific of a lot of coveniences I used daily for no gain as far as I can tell). There is no form on the Wish form page, just a bunch of legalese… kind of sums Adobe up these days I reckon… lost in a demise of their own legalistic and penny pinching ways.

There used to be a thing called User Voicce for loggin Adobe CC bug — I can't find it anymore. A post I made in Discussions years ago suggested this link to Wishform Feedback and Feature Requests page and form (now with page title but no form!!). What are we supposed to do to log bugs these days? I can't even find the telephone support numbers any more on this website… <sigh/> Also, how do I find the local number to call Adobe for support on this? Bug 1. When using the Hand tool, the tool often converts to the behavior expected of the selection tool. Even while keeping the hand tool icon on screen, so it's no keyboard shortcut (Command key) simualtion doing this. Video below illustrates the issue completely I think. Tool starts selecting text or drawing blue-shaded highlight marquees on the page, meaning it no longer moves the page(s) up/down or left/right when I click down the cursor and drag around. The Hand tool is supposed to move the page(s) around when the cursor is down, not draw selection marquees.. Bug 2. This is a weird one. Every time I open a PDF file in Acrobat it starts blinking the page contents on and off (see second video) . Same PDFs don't blink in any web browser or Apple Preview. Nor Adobe Illustrator. Just Acrobat. If I select some of the text (not always easy with the deteriorating capabilities of the Selection tool) it seems to stop blinking. Going forwards and back through pages of document doesn't stop it blinking. Most of these files I'm seeing it on were created in Powerpoint and saved as PDFs but I've seen it from all kinds of file origins. The only files I've seen it not happen in a PDFs that are digital versions of books/papers from print publications, perhaps they're using a PDF export standard that blocks this behavior?!

Adobe Acrobat version 2024.002.20893 macOS, according to Get Info in Finder and Acrobat menu > About Acrobat. (note to adobe devs, allow text copy from the About Acrobat window!) In the Creative Cloud Application it says that its Acrobat version 24.1 (note to Adobe please be consistent in your versioning information, it's quite pathetic that this is inconsistent TBF, but a reflect of the lowering standards at Adobe this decade and the falling attention to detail and bugs in general) When I open various PDFs (the one in the video was made by someone else from powerpoint slides) they start flashing either immmediately or after scrolling through a few pages or after attempting to add some notes to them. I've tried a ten or so other PDF files reflecting various source material and most exhibit the same problem. The only one that hasn't so far is a text book publication PDF, perhaps it was exported using a print PDF standard so is immune from this bug? The sample data is too sample to draw hard and fast conclusions from, I'd need to open and scroll/edit 100 files to get any level of accuracy. A video is linked below, is anybody else seeing this bug? If it's not one bug it's some other with Adobe these days, my workday is constantly being interupted with unrealible software issues thatnks to Adobe. And all they seem to care about is ramming multi-cloloured AI buttons, popups and features down my throat.

I've been working on a file in Illustrator and using the PDF format (since I opened a PDF export from Excel of some graphs). When I did a Save As… the file opened in Acrobat (as it does when checked to do so) and I'm seeing a green rectangle on the edge of the page and a red rectangle which appears to be the page's object bounds. Never seen this kind of thing before without explicitily turning it on in Prepress work a million years ago. Anyhow when I open the PDF in Apple Preview or Firefox browser they are not there but when I open in Acrobat they are there. I reverted to the old Acrobat and they're still visible. What are they and how do I make sure the person I wanted to submit this file to 4 hours ago doesn't see them? And that fact that unlike all the other CC applications, Acrobat still doesn't provision for keyboard shortcuts for deeply buried menu and contextual-menu commands and ACTIVELY BLOCKS the macOS Keyboard Shortcuts that work in all normal apps from other software vendors that i've used over the years since macOS introduced a Sytem Preferences tool for assigning global and application keyboard shortcuts to the application menu bar menus and sub-menus. This means I can't even work around this junkware without making a JSX tool or somthing.

I used to use Acrobat a lot. I wrote forms and simple javascript for PDFs. Also used importing of comments into InDesign extensively in years gone by (ok, decades probably). These days i just use it for reading acedemic literature along with highlighting and commenting tools. But the rdesign is driving me nuts and wasting so much of my time. Acrobat was always the runt of the Creative Cloud suite but it seems to be demobstrably worse since the UI changes in a recent major release. Since the recent major upgrade where Adobe moved the left side bar tools to the right hand side and right hand side tools to the left hand side in a genuinly revolutionary transformation of UX/UI they seem to have also removed a bunch of buttons on the "QuickTools" toolbar which i used all the time. As in hudrends of times a day. Ok, fine, Adobe, let your UX/UI improvement ibecile team have their way, you will just make me go through the process of putting all the buttons you used to provide by defauky or as options that i still need back on to the QuickTool toolbar (in spite of Acrobat's UI revolution where they spend millions swapping Things On the Left Side bar with Things On the Right Sidebar). I mean you will provide for that wont you… you have to be kidding me, I can't right click on the horizontal toolbar empty white pace any more to bring up toolbar customisation options?! Close up: So I go to use the in-App Acrobate Help and Acrobat Tutorial pages linked in the app. Refelcting the excellent attention to detail in Acrobat's developer ranks, QA, all tiers of management and the online support teams at Adobe Acrobat these days, the menu link for Acrobat Help doesnt link to anything, at this poit it may as well link to adobe.com/cc/users?oh-just-go-f#ckyourselves-to-our-users. The Acrobat Tutorials page does link, but nothing on that page will to get me to a User Guide or that faint oldfashioin thing we used to call Application Documentation. Also checking under Adobe's Acrobat Home Page not a single link to a User Guide or Documentaion page. heaps of do this and do that sh!t to waste another hour of my day scanning through to look for what I want. Ok back to tutorials, I still have another few hours to waste on Adobe today… no pressing acedemic deadlines or anything. Great, the very first tutorial on the top left corner of this Help page promises to in five minutes show me how to put the back and forward, zoom in and out and other buttons back on the hozironal toolbar. Great, click on link to tutorial. I shi*t you not, every single screen shot links to screenshots of an older version of Acrobat with all the tools I despreately miss, already in the toolbar. (page naviagtion, zoom controls, page view controls all as easy buttons that don't require iving into submenus of contextual menus etc etc). Adobe has got to be trolling us now with this s*tful UI/UX upgrade and no clues as to how to get my tools back. I already tried to modify the toolbar which is acutally for modifying the vertical tool icon strip, not the hoizontal toolbar at the top of the page. Ik fine, whatever, just give me one-click access to the tools i've sued in Acrobate since the early 90s. They Arent F*CKing there as far as i can tell and it took me five minutes just to open all the freaking sub menus and search through them for "back" and "forwards" etc etc. I and so many of my professional collegues and employees and employers have been paying out a lot of money to Adobe for literally decades, espically when they legally killed, sorry aquired of the only legit compeditor on macOS, Macromedia to get control of Flash. All we seem to get is buggy junkware, teriible design choices, bad documentation and don't get me started on the all-singing-all-dancing AI Assistent red-gold-force me to acknowledge all the time button in the top right corner of tool bar (prime screen relastae wasted on advertising more Adobe gimmickware).

Thanks to the app developer for posting this, small files and throughput are totally free. No malware far as I can tell 🙂 https://www.sejda.com/split-pdf-down-the-middle I used to do this in Acrobat using the reformating tools and to be honest it was a PITA to do it that way. Add to that that Adobe changed the Acrobat UI every versions for many years and it was impossible to find the tool locations using old habits. Add to that that Adobe refuses to add shortcuts to Acrobat (Apple version at least) and actively blocks Apples system level shortcuts from working on menu item commands (seriously Adobe, i first complained about this to an Adobe eveangalist at a training day in 2004 and even he said "Acrobat is a dog" and its' not developed in the same group as the (then) Creative Suite of apps). This makes it so much easier and they have dozens of other PDF tools avialble for free or by paid account for more serious use volumes.

I'm also coming from version 3 in the 90s. Adobe apparently fired their coders and offshored it to India, which is who you get to talk to if you encounter a major bug that doesn't let you word and your file isn't backwards compatible with the previous version (InDesign in my case). Nothing against Indian coders, but having lived there for 6 months in 2005 I'm well aware of the cultural gap around expectations in production standards of whats "good enough" and what's a "f(*$&ing s#!t show" I mean how do you destroy the code base so badly (short of refactoring it) such that the tool cursors which have ALWAYS worked seemlessly as advertised are not updating to the tool you have selected. does the thing but with the wrong cursor symbol. now character styles is playing up for me, redefining the style to match text is doing the oppositing of what it should, it's modifying the tesxt not the style. Diabolical, Adobe. Diabolical. If i played the stock market i'd be shorting Adobe for a slow collapse over the next decade. AI will not save them, it will kill them IMO.

No v28 is the worst. I can't beleive how badly Adobe is going downhill these days. If it wasn't for a universtity subscription I'd be buying a alternatives or AI right now, as in today. How the hell can something as fundemental as cursor symbols get so screwed up such that holding down the shortcuts for the various selection tools aren't reflect on screen, and even worse selecting any of the selction tools AI doesn't change the on-screen cursor. Now character and para styles are not redifining to reflect the new text. they change the text to a different font that even the original style wasn't supposed to be set to. The QA deptartment at Adboe needs a root and branch clean out. Things are really that bad for the last few years. Adobe is heading the way of Kodak, and buying out the opposition will not work, not everyone will sell out like the Figma DHs did.

Didn't know theyd bought Figma. I recall that from it's pre-release days, could barely do anythign with it but was similar to Apples Quartz Composer Editor which I coded video efects and sporting broadcast overlays in so I had a play with Figma. It's sad when start up founds sell out, often under pressure from their funders who were only ever there for the payday.
