How long can it take to just re-enable it, since it was present in past versions?

As I sead, the chat window opened only after I accepted advertising cookies; it has nothing to do with the adblocker (although I've had a problem with Premiere Pro in the past where it would not open because my adblock software prevented it from connecting to an url, and diagnosing that was a months long pain in the butt).

I tried 4 browsers, it didn't matter, the chat window won't open unless I accept advertising cookies.

Most browsers "allow popup and cookies", and the ones I tried definitely do (Chrome, Opera, Edge, etc.), but you never said "accept all cookies". And so nobody thought about that, because it doesn't make any sense. I could accept that you might need "functional cookies" enabled to get this functionality (although reality shows that it is not usually the case), but there's absolutely no reason you'd need to enable "advertising cookies" for this. It's either Adobe trying to squeeze some more money out of its users, or trying to hide the support options; either way it's really pathetic and possibly illegal.

chat: use a browser that allows popups and cookies, and click here, https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen Tried that several times in multiple browsers and it never worked, so I was wondering how come it's suggested so often. Finally solved the mystery: it only works if you accept All Cookies, ar at least didn't work until I accepted the advertising ones (that I never accept). Wow, that's greedy, like Adobe level greedy. I've never seen anyone refuse support unless you accept advertising cookies. I'm even pretty sure that's illegal. But I guess that's Adobe...

I need to chat to someone at Adobe about my CC plan, but the chat option has misteriously disappeared from the website. Actually, there's absolutely no contact option available for me here (in Romania): there's no chat, no email, nothing except a phone number that is dead. Is Adobe one of those scammer companies these days that sell you something and become unreachable as soon as they got the money? It certainly does seem so, seeing how their products are malfunctioning all the time; they are more like pretending to be real products, working just well enough to allow them to scam someone, or at least that's what the lack of contact options and other support than forums (which is not support at all) makes me think. So, back to the question: how do I get to chat to someone from Adobe?

No chat window opens when I click the https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen link. Any other ideas how to get in contact with Adobe? If that is even possible (it has been quite hidden in the past, but this time I really can't find any working option).

I only have the GeForce driver and EVGA Precision X1 software installed for my graphics card (nothing has been preinstalled as I installed Windows myself, on a system built by me), and I don't know them to contain any codecs. I don't remember installing the free version of the codec, but I would not exclude it (it has been some time since I installed Windows on this machine in 2017); any idea how to check that?

I really, and I mean REALLY, don't understand why everyone says you have to pay the US$0.99 for HEVC. As I explained in earlier posts, I have only installed the "HEIF Image Extensions" and I can open HEIC/HEIF files, even ones coming from iphones. I could chalk it up to the behaviour type "pay first, (maybe) inquire later" that I observed in the absolute majority of people that use apple products, but this seems just too much (even if the amount is just one dollar). So I make myself avalable (as much as possible) to anyone who wants to identify the reason why this works for me and doesn't for so many other people and find a fix. Because this would be a fix; having to pay for a video codec in order to open an image file is not normal at all.

Instead of writing a novel in defense of Premiere Pro (a "TL;DR" would be useful, btw), why not share on-topic news, if there are any?

Well, since Premiere Pro still lacks such basic video editing features as color correction using color targets (not that users haven't been asking for these features for years), it's quite difficult cu call it a "major NLE" these days; so that could explain why Sony is not working on this with Adobe. Now that there are plenty of Sony cameras with gyro stabilization, from "pro" FX9 to the pocket ZV-1, I guess that the first major NLE to have the support for this will swoop many users of these cameras up. Can't wait for it, I'm sick and tired of having to use Catalyst just for stabilization.

I don't know about iphone pictures (Apple is well-known for various unnecessary quirks in their support of various file formats and codecs), but I can open HEIF files generated by a Samsung phone with just the HEIF codec installed (as the name states, HEVC is for video, so, logically, not needed).

I'm the first one to criticize Adobe for their plethora of shortcumings, but refusing to use a codec provided by the maker of the OS and requesting Adobe to do it is just ridiculous. Who cares who provides the codec, as long as it's easily available from a trusted source?

That is a lie, you only need the HEIF codec to work with HEIF images; HEVC is for video and has nothing to do with images. Since when do "Adobe Community Professional"s try to make sales for Microsoft?

It does work for me; I have installed the free "HEIF Image Extensions" from the Microsoft store, and Photoshop can finally open HEIC files. Probably the last image editing software to get this feature, but they finally did it. I feel I need to note that I haven't installed the HEVC codec (the paid one), it's not necessary for images (it's for video). So I guess what was said in that post is correct, although not technically and answer.

Yes, that worked! I forgot the Adobe "support" staff changed the compatibility settings on the app to try to make it work, and of course never bothered to revert the changes. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for sharing your habits regaring importing files into PP. I'm sure you understand that other people might have other habits; whether they suit them better than yours or not is another question, not always open for discussion. Still, I have a basic feature of Premiere Pro not working on my PC and I'm trying to find a solution to it. I might have done the same even if it was a feature I rarely use and could get around (who knows, maybe it will be crucial to me one day and I will regret not having fixed it before).

@Jeff Bugbee Thanks for the suggestions, tried them all (as reluctant as I was to reset my settings again), but to no avail. And no, there is no dialog window open, I just open PP with a blank project and try to drag an drop a file into it. @Kevin-Monahan I wish you read my post completely instead of rushing to post something no matter how (ir)relevant. What coud the source patching have to do with the inability to drag and drop a file in the bin? I know many people post their question without putting any kind of effort into finding a solution themseves, even by just googling it, but please don't just assume everyone is like this and copy-paste a standard answer everywhere. Anyway, attached is a screenshot, maybe it helps.

After several months of issues with any version of PP above 14.5, the latest one is finally working on my PC. Working as in not crashing immediately at start-up. But now I can't drag and drop anything into it: not a video, audio or image, not into the timeline, bin, or anywhere. I just get the crossed circle every time and everywhere. Tried resetting (holding ALT when launching PP) - didn't help. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Importing every file the long way is way too cumbersome.

Thank you for the info, I expected the file to be in a more "script-like" form, not an xml (because I saw these favorites also being called "scripts" in some tutorials). Maybe I could find a way to make the xml work (just repeatedly applying the same DeHummer effect with every next one increasing the frequency by 50 Hz), but in the meantime I found another solution with an acceptable result: just "learning" the interference noise from a fairly long silent portion of the audio and removing it from the whole file; the audio being just a voice recording the "damage" was not too big. I tried the "Sound Remover" too, but it's too limited and much too slow even on my 16-core machine to be of any use.

I have a file that got some weird interference from something when recorded, so the wave editor shows a grid of thin horizontal lines every 50 Hz from the bottom all the way to the top. Each can be easily removed with a well-placed DeHummer, but doing that 400 times manually is not realistic, so I was thinking of creating a basic script (or Favorite, as I learned it's called) for the first DeHummer at 50 Hz , and then see if I can edit it's file (for example in a spreadsheet) to add all the other frequencies. The problem is I can't even find the file for the Favorite I created. Does anyone know where these Favorite files are stored (on a Windows 10 system), or maybe a better way to do what I need?

[removed], Adobe?!? How come Photoshop still can't open HEIF files when so many devices write them? I am used to you ignoring your Premiere Pro users (of which I am one), since the ones that stuck with it until now just don't have any alternative (Resolve is good but has its own issues), but GIMP is an excellent (and completely free) replacement for Photoshop, which supports HEIF files (among many other things they got over PS), so I would jump ship over this in a heartbeat.

But the camera records progressive and writes progressive, so why are (only) the newer versions of Premiere "confused" and interpret it as interlaced? That's a bug going on for over half a year already, and all I see is attempts to find excuses instead of a fix.
