Hello Christi. As you depend on this for professional reasons I can understand your frustration, and that of many other people caught-up with this critical bug. That said, let me make one observation and one suggestion. The observation is that a number of software companies appear to be letting customers do a considerable bit of their beta testing. To some extent this makes sense because of the infinity of exact operating environments out there, but for basic functionality it is inexcusable. Those companies guilty of this practice need to seriously rethink it. The suggestion is that from one update to the next there is usually nothing so critically important that users can't roll-back to previous version that worked and use it till the key bugs get fixed, then upgrade. I always remain at least one version behind until I'm satisfied that there is no mission-critical reason not to upgrade, and I don't feel that I've missed anything super important. Would this be so terrible for the time being?

Print Studio Pro has not "vanished". You can find it here: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART172390. All the software and drivers are here: https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-pro-100. The page has a number of software components. You should probably un-install everything to do with Canon printing and install a complete fresh set of software and firmware. If you still can't get it to work and Canon tech support can't help you directly, you may want to think of buying an Epson P-900 and using its Epson Print Layout software (bundled) which is similar to PSP and plays well with Ventura, Photoshop and Lightroom.

Neil, my understanding of ImagePrint is that it works with one's own custom profiles. But I also understand, from some time back now, they will also make custom profiles for customers on request.

Neil- probably worth also mentioning ImagePrint by Colorbyte software. I have not used it myself, but I've seen it in action at the late Kevin Raber's studio and heard very good feedback from people whose judgment I trust that it works well. I suspect it works around the factors affecting the issues we are discussing here. I hope to have a conversation with them to delve more into that, as it may be a viable alternative to using the printer drivers in a MacOS environment. The only problem with it is commercial; it's not cheap but I understand they offer excellent support.

I have been given to understand that Apple messed it up with uncorrected APIs going back as far as Ventura. BUT THAT SAID, the business of printer drivers appearing not to stick could also be printer manufacturer driver issue. In fact, with the Epson driver for the P5370 I find it infuriating that once one selects the Printer and Print settings in the driver ane clicks SAVE, one cannot go back into this menu to see whether it saved correctly, because it always shows the default settings upon being opened, not the most recenrtly saved ones. However, if one goes straight to PRINT withoiut re-opening anything, the print comes out correctly. So the moral of this story is: after selecting a bunch of settings and saving them, DO NOT LOOK BACK. Trust the system and just print. Now that works with this particular printer and OS version. All bets off for any other. I am of the view that both the printer manufaturers and Apple Computer do NOT have their act together on this print pipeline and it really is long overdue that once and for all they fix it. I'm close to either buying a RIP or a Windows computer to get myself disentangled from all this nonsense.

Interesting - I had also been informed by another Sequoia user that for now Canon Professional Print and Kayout remains the way to avoid this problem for now. I have two computers - one on Monterey, on which there are no issues, and the other on Ventura which requires using Epson Print Layout to avoiud the issue. My initial understanding that this problem affects both Epson and Canon printers remains unchanged, that it is not an Adobe issue, but something Apple needs to fix, (inferring the issue arises between the point at which the data leaves Adobe software and enters the computer OS CMS environment from which it goes to the printer driver). I would like to get my hands on more specific information about which stage of the print pipeline handles exactly which operations to better understand where the responsibility lies to fix this, but it remains a real nuisance.

Hi Neil - maybe you missed it, but the OP is on Canon, not Epson. Anyhow, for those installing Epson printers this is necessary advice.

No, it's not unbelievable. Happens to me all the time, so I stopped upgrading MacOS at Ventura on my laptop and Monterey on my desktop, both M1 chips, and I'm not missing anything I need. Just get off their senseless treadmill. I've come to the conclusion that Apple has no interest in maintaining backward compatibility of colour management and the print pipeline, so best is to bypass it using alternative software for printing. In the Epson world Epson Print Layout (EPL) works well. Canon has a similar application I reviewed a long while ago - forget the name - you can find it and test whether it protects the integrity of your colours. The day all that fails, my Plan B will be to buy a cheap Windows computer just for managing printing. From all I've been reading, it seems Microsoft has been better at sustaining colour-managed workflows for printing and from what I've observed, the printer driver layout is more user-friendly than what the printer manufacturters are required to design for complying with MacOS.

Thanks for trying that John, much appreciated. I shall give it a go. But first, I'd appreciate if you could advise whether "Import/Export As Catalog" means my whole catalog gets transferred, or only the photos I selected for tranferring, and having done so, does this create a new catalog on the receiving volume, such that I would end-up with multiple catalogs, one new one for every batch of photos I export from one compouter to the other? If so, that sounds like laying the groundwork for eventual chaos - unless I keep merging them all. Perhaps most important of all, are there any image edits I perform in Lr's Develop Moduole that are only recorded in the Catalog and not in XMP?

Thanks John, but I think there may be a problem with this because there is a limitation of Lightroom's permissions for copying between computers on a wireless network - I recall having had such an issue some time ago, but I forget the details. Anyhow, I could try again as you suggest.

Lr 13.2 on my M1 MacBook Pro does not recognize the adjustments made to the same file on the Mac Studio M1 Desktop using the same Lr version, even though the XMP file from the Studio Desktop is downloaded to the MBP and sits right underneath the raw photo in the MBP finder. The raw photo had already been imported to the MBP at time of capture when there was no XMP associated with it. I was under the impression that once an XMP is associated with a raw file which is in the Lr catalog, Lr should pick-up the XMP data and make the requisite adjustments to the photo, but it does not. Is this a bug or a feature, and if the latter, how does one get edits that have been done in the desktop version of Lr recognized in the laptop version of Lr? It would seem perhaps one needs to get the XMP into the catalog as well, but there appears to be no way of doing this. I need this functionality in order to print to the Epson P5300 from my laptop.

That's strange. I just tried to create a roll paper set-up using your stated dimension of 279.4 mm for both width and height and it worked fine. I'm on MacOS 12.6 and have EPL Version 1.5.9.

Then it sounds perhaps less like a Photoshop problem and maybe some malfunctioning between the printer driver and the OS. To check for that, it may be an idea to install Epson Print Layout and try making the print through that application.

Not that it should be necessary, but did you flatten the file and save it (under a new name in order to keep the layered file separately) before sending it to print? Perhaps that may be a pro-tem fix?

Yes, my thought is that if you can you should roll back both the OS and Adobe software to the latest versions that worked properly for you and wait six months until after the commercial release of both products before upgrading, while checking periodically to see whether the major bigs have been ironed out in the interval. Fortunately, there are people who like to be at the bleeding edge of updates and don't mind taking the trouble of dealing with the inevitable bugs that accompany any software update. We have them to thank for doing this "research" so that ultimately the rest of us can enjoy a relatively trouble-free computing experience. It has to be appreciated that these systems are so complex and there are so many computing environments out there that teething trouble is inevitable, but not ll of us need suffer through it if we choose to be patient.

I haven't up-graded to this latest release yet, so I can't speak from first-hand experience, but two observations I think remain valid: (1) so far we have two people in the universe of upgraders lodging this complaint here. If there were a generic defect with the application, by now I would have expected many more; and (2) several people in this thread have recommended resetting Preferences and seeing whether this re-establishes functionality. Neither of the two complainants have yet told us whether they followed this advice and whether it made a difference.

I can understand your frustration when something you have been working with for a long time ceases to perform as expected upon an upgrade. I can also understand that with the infinity of operating environments out there and the enormous size and complexity of the Photoshop application code, compatibility glitches can arise that elude whatever kind of QA they are doing - and my understanding is that the ratio of QA staff to developer staff is very high at Adobe, but..... So the issue is to find out what's going on. The people from Adobe monitoring this forum know their own application, but they don't know your computing environment. So it would be useful to share information about the versions of MacOS and names and versions of all other applications you have running that could affect communication between your photos and Photoshop. That may help them diagnose what's going and get you fixed-up. It's fine to be upset, but cool-headed diagnosis is the only way this gets fixed.

This is not good news. I was informed by a usually reliable source (who will go unidentified to protect the innocent) that the cause of this problem is a MacOS API and tbat Apple was committed to fixing it with the latest OS update. That this did not happen is to say the least disappointing. Needless to say all this happens in a fog of opacity because none of them are prepared to explain anything in specific detail and provide a reliable assurance of an ETA for a fix. It is dismal industry performance. Thank goodness Epson Print Layout and the Canon equivalent provide a good workaround. But I would still like to be able to print directly from Lr, as I'm sure thousands of others are too. As individual consumers we have no clout with Apple, but I would hope a company the size of Adobe does and could intervene with them once and for all. Meanwhile, we have two options: (1) Stick with using EPL, or (2) buy a cheap Windows laptop and use Windows for printing. The Windows OS has for the most part been more user-friendly, more consistent and more reliable over time when it comes to support of printing with the printer manufacturers' drivers through Adobe Lr..

Are you sure? This is the first time I have heard of an ICC profile causing such problems. I would like to be educated about how an ICC profile could do all this harm. I have not heard that ICC profiles can be sensitive to the version of Photoshop or MacOS. Is it possible that coincidentally something else you did, perhaps unknowingly, solved it?

I have had this issue as well, but it never lasted as long as you report. Generative fill is using Adobe resources fed through the Internet, so I have always assumed such problems arise from image generation or Internet issues somewhere along the chain between Adobe's data banks, servers and my computer. It would be best to raise the matter to Adobe tech support.
