We have very similar setup and Still have very poor performance for playback in premiere which is annoying I know @Kevin-Monahan once said he suspect a bug with this king of footage and those processor but I don't know if any devs are on it.

I am on v23 and I still have problem with FX9 footage on both of our Mac pro 2019. Can't convert more than 35/40 files at the time because it make the CPU overload and at some point the Mac becomes useless. I posted about this here

Hi. Didn't have any answer about that but the problem is still there in AME 23.2 I have hundreds of clips to convert and it's a bit annoying to have to plan for a few days of work instead of queuing the file and converting them overnight because I know the render will crash at some point. I am joining a copie of the log of the last queue in AME. You'll see that there is it take significantly more time towards the end of the queue to encode each clips. It took about 50 min to convert 45 files. I just did a test converting the same files with similar settings in Handbrake and it took less than 30min I would really prefer using the software we pay hundreds of dollars a month instead of a free software. Is there a fix for that or my computer is just doom with these file and adobe systems? thanks Dan

I have to convert lots of XAVC footage from a Sony FX9 to h264 for my client and everytime I queue in media encoder it start fast but after 30 clips or so the CPU are overloading and media encoder become slow up to the point it make my Mac pro crash. The GPU doesn't seems to be use at all even if the preset says it should use hardware material. At that point the only way to make the CPU slow down is to close or restart AME Here are tthe specs from our Mac Pro 7,1 3,3 GHz Intel Xeon W 12 cores (not the fastest I know) 364 go Ram AMD Radeon Pro vega II 32 go footage is on a NVME raid 0 and cache is on a separate sata ssd drive On another thread about slow premiere @Kevin-Monahan said that he suspect a bug with these Xeon CPUs and that specific format. Any developpement about that? I am at the point that I will need to use another encoding software if I want to queue a big batch of clips without having to wait until the computer crash to restart the queue. Any suggestions to fix that? Thanks

It's is mainly XAVC footage from our Sony FX9 camera. So I don't think I should need to convert that footage with our current configuration. On my M1 macbook pro premiere runs pretty great but it's on one of our Mac pro 7,1 and one of our Imac that premiere was running very slowly and laggy. The memory purge stated by @benwinter on step 9 seems to have fix the very slow response of premiere.

We had a very laggy and slow premiere on one of our mac pro 2019 3,3 GHz Intel Xeon W 12 cores (not the fastest I know) 364 go Ram AMD Radeon Pro vega II 32 go footage is on a NVME raid 0 and cache is on a separate sata ssd drive We tried every steps and follow every tutorial to boost performance even tough lots of tips were for slower machine. But premiere was still very laggy even in 1/4 resolution. Thanks to this post it finally run smoothly like it suppose to be. The step that did the trick was step 9. I have not idea why but I hope this will help other people too.
