In the attached image 'before.png' you can see a shape layer rigged with one simple expression with an IF statement that outputs either ` thisLayer.content ("Shape 2").content("Path 1").path` or `thisLayer.content ("Shape 1").content("Path 1").path`depending on the state of a checkbox. If the name of the referenced Path that is currently evaluated by the if statement is changed by the user, the name of both Paths is updated in the expression, which is incorrect - since the non-evaluated one is inside a different group with a different group name. See the `after.png` for the resulting expression.

I raised this in the dev Slack a few weeks ago. From a user's perspective, it should 'just work', despite the way EG's were built.

This seems to have got worse and worse, I am now able to hide AE about 1 time in every 6 attempts. And it happens even when I invoke Hide from the menu bar, nothing to do with keyboard shortcuts (that may have always been the case…).

Yes, same. I thought that 'use system shortcuts' had fixed it but no, it still happens with the default Ctrl+Cmd+H to Hide (maybe slightly less often).

It's not an Apple standard on Mac, but it appears to be the Adobe standard on Mac. Since all these apps list Cmd-H as assigned to various functions within the applications. If Adobe were adopting Apple's standards, Cmd-H would always be used to hide the Application.

After effects currently has issues with using the Mac standard Cmd-H. I believe if you click 'Hide Extras' in that window, Photoshop will then default to the Ctrl+Cmd+H I described.

I just reset Photoshop and this is what I now see as the default. After Effects uses Cmd-H to Replace footage, this is from here:

This was happening so much that I've been forced to change my AE pref to not 'use system shortcuts' and adapt my aging muscle memory to use the default Ctrl+Cmd+H. If only Illustrator could use the same combination (which Photoshop also defaults to)… (seems like AI can't acces the Mac ctrl key for some reason).

Please read my OP. I'd like to keep keyboard shortcuts consistent across apps within Creative Cloud. PS and AE now use Control+Command+H. The Mac Control key (not the same as the Command key / Windows Ctrl key) seems to be totally unavailable to AI shortcuts.

Adobe seems to be settling on Ctrl+Cmd+H to Hide applications on Mac (Photoshop, After Effects). Illustrator still has no default shortcut for this, but worse, we cannot use the Mac Ctrl key for any (?) shortcuts in Illustrator. This doesn't make sense to the user. Muscle memory for common actions like hiding should be respected and universalized across apps.

What is the behaviour when there are more errors than fit on the screen? Eg. Is there a scroll bar?

Keyboard shortcuts can already be used to run scripts but they are assigned by index, not name, and are limited to the first 20 scripts in the Scripts folder. If you assign a keyboard shortcut to a script called 'Very Important Script.jsx' and later add another script called 'Another Script.jsx' to the Scripts folder, the keyboard shortcut gets unseated because A comes before V. Now the shortcut fires whatever script was before Very Important Script in the list of scripts. This is confusing behaviour for most users and is not well documented. It's especially bad because it seems to work by name, until it doesn't. There are a number of videos out there (from very reputable sources), which show users how to assign shortcuts to scripts, but don't explain this issue. Ideally, scripts would be assigned shortcuts by filename, and all the scripts in the Scripts folder would be available. This could also allow developers to access the shortcuts .txt file and add a permanent shortcut to their script (without having to know it's index), making the entire process easier for end users.

I just had the same issue again, but this time I had to click on the app icon in the dock twice. The first time I did so, AE came back into focus but still did not disappear when I hit Cmd-H (it just shifted focus to another app but the AE UI remained in place).

Hey @JohnColombo thanks for responding. You are correct - clicking on AE in the dock did make it possible to Hide it as expected. My 'Use System Shortcuts' is checked on.

I've been seeing issues with Cmd-H ever since upgrading to Ventura, but unlike the Save As… dialog cursor bug, I haven't seen this one mentioned elsewhere. AE often fails to hide when I use Cmd-H. The UI focus shifts to the Finder, but the AE window remains visible. If I minimize AE, undocked panels remain visible and cause issues. Using the menu command After Effects > Hide After Effects seems to work more consistently than the keyboard shortcut, though that may be coincidence. The problem as a whole is intermittent, not constant, so it's hard to test and provide specific detailed descriptions.

Just jumping back in here to say that a lot of the comments discuss ways to mute ALL the keyframes on a property, but that's not what I'm asking for. My suggestion is the ability to mute, say, the third and fourth keyframes ONLY. The interpolation between the second and fifth keyframes then behaves as if I had deleted the two I muted. But I can re-enable them at any time.

In my view, preferences to allow users to disable new behaviours are usually a good idea (see the backlash to the new Home button, for example). Disrupting muscle memory isn't great, but it isn't the end of the world, especially if it's something less than fundamental and adds a really useful new feature. I use Option-drag to scale keyframes quite often. Looking at current modifier combo's on keyframes, I think the one I'd miss the least is Cmd/Ctrl + Option clicking (which currently toggles Hold interpolation). Personally, I'd add a new key command for Toggle Hold Keyframe - HH. We're all using TT and UU all the time, why not use a few more double-tap keys? Then have the Cmd/Ctrl + Option drag do the duplicating. Or if people want the duplicate with Option-drag, use Cmd + Option drag for the scaling. I also want to say that adding an option to drag keyframes to duplicate them 1. Needs to work with keyframes on multiple layers, and 2. Is not sufficient on it's own - we also need the ability to copy and paste keyframes from multiple layers with keyboard commands. Because dragging is not always easy to do with precision, for example if working in long duration comps on a smaller monitor. Pasting multiple layer keyframes to the CTI is, I would say, more important than being able to drag-duplicate them. And it should not require any more than the standard Cmd-C and Cmd-V. I was teaching 3rd year students recently and they find the existing behaviour (layers copying and pasting) bizarre - it goes against the expectations that the rest of AE's behaviours (which are more contextual, based on selection) actually engender.

How about a new type of Repeater for shape groups that looks pretty much the same as the existing one, except that values in it's Transform properties are not applied cumulatively, but rather have their expressions evaluated individually for every copy of the shape? So if I add a random expression to the repeater's Position property, I get a bunch of randomly positioned copies. Ideally we'd get expression access to something like repeaterIndex (like textIndex in text layer expression selectors) but even without any new syntax it would be amazing. I can already imagine making a growing vine which automatically sprouts leaves as it gets longer. Might save someone jumping over to Cavalry, and could provide some new possibilities to MGRTs too.

In C4D you can 'mute' keyframes - essentially this acts like deleting the keyframe except that a dummy 'reference' key is left there, perhaps greyed out, that stores the value(s) and interpolations it had before it was muted. Keyframes to either side behave exactly as if it was not there, until it is un-muted.

So J and K are potentially really useful keys but in practice there is often way too many keyframes on a timeline. How about adding the ability to add a modifier key, such as ALT, which would let J and K navigate to the next keyframe or marker ON SELECTED LAYERS ONLY. That would be most appreciated Mr. Adobe, thank-you.

👏This is a huge improvement over the earlier, always-pointy version that we discussed here. I'm stoked that you folks are listening and adopting user's suggestions so dynamically. We've needed this kind of thing from Adobe for a long, long time. I'm pretty happy with what I can do with these tapers now. I think my next request would be that the Start Width and End Width properties could go up beyond 100%. At the moment (17.1.0.54) you really have to think and plan ahead with your base Stroke Width being the widest you'll ever want. Trying to get a taper just right can mean a bit of back-and-forth between the Stroke Width and the Taper Widths.

When I use the sampleImage expression on an imported Illustrator layer, I get an incorrect (0,0,0,0) result. If I convert that layer to a Shape Layer, OR if I simply turn on Continuous Rasterization, it works correctly. What is really weird is that if I leave the Illustrator layer with Continuous Rasterisation OFF, pre-compose it, and then enable Continuous Rasterization for the Precomp (not for the original layer), I also then get the correct result. Is there a logic to this that I am not seeing? Or a bug? Is there a workaround I can use so that it works correctly with simple imported AI layers that remain non-continuously-rasterized? I'm using AE 16.1.0 on Mac. Thanks

Apologies if this is an OS X thing rather than an Adobe thing, but since CC 2015 the 'options' in the Import dialog, have ceased to be persistent. Eg every time I go to import, the options (to specify a single image or an image sequence, for example) are not visible, until I click the Options button. In CC 2014, it remains in the state it was last time I used it, either open or closed. But on 2015 and above, it reverts to closed every time, meaning I often forget to open it to select a particular option. Is this now standard behaviour ?
