CS5 - can't 'place' large amounts of text

I'm trying to create an interior layout for a 6x9 book approx. 300 pgs. 

I've been using a "Book Interior Template for 6x9" here at Adobe:

However, there's a limit to how much text with come through (usually 3-4 chapters) and then there's an error.

In researching I discovered this is a common problem, but I can't find a solution.

I'm using WORD 2007 (I tried saving as 2003 in case it would have less 'background' information, but that didn't work either).  Another forum also suggested saving in cs3, then copying and pasting into cs5 - but I don't have cs3.
